Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

Exclusively pumping

Avatar

BF was way more convenient for me nothing to pack going out esp as I did go out every day lol. Other people could feed coz I was able to collect milk from Hakaa and pump early hrs when I had most milk, I needed my breaks couple times a week so made sure there was always milk there when I left. Best of both worlds I think. BF, w a freezer supply

Avatar

Exclusive pumping- literally the worst of both worlds.

I breastfeed and honestly think bottle feeding is not just super expensive, but it only gets easier the more money you spend. I bought bottles upon bottles with my little one cause she refused every kind, I wanted to share breastfeeding by letting her have breastmilk in a bottle and she did not go for it. I would have saved so much time, sanity and money if I just kept to breastfeeding from the start.
Breastfeeding's just tiring cause it's constant and always you

I would’ve given anything to be able to BFsometimes. It was nice to be able to sleep though, since my hubs could take a shift. EBF sounds exhausting though, I did weighted feeds for 3 weeks straight trying to get my milk to come in with my 1st, omg, the latching & bottle feeding was way less stressful than the pumping to me.

Avatar

Clicked on wrong one but bfs mostttt demandin n annoying n exclusive pumping somewhat but formula feedings the best n super straightforward

Avatar

I’ve done both, struggled with both and formula feeding was definitely harder

Avatar

As someone who exclusively breastfed I’ve always thought that formula feeding looks harder, I can’t imagine having to go to the kitchen and prepare bottles in the night and keeping on top of the sterilising. Also when I went out the house I would put a couple of nappies, some wipes and a spare onesie in my handbag and then we are out the door. Where packing formula, bottles, cold water, hot water, looks so time consuming!

Avatar

I think breastfeeding is hard the first six weeks and then it’s so easy
II personally did a bit of formula pumping and breastfeeding the first two months as my daughter struggled a bit with latching and I was like omg I keep only breastfeeding once the latch was sorted
it’s much easier and did it for two years

Avatar

I think BF is harder in these few few weeks/ months but then is easier than FF in the long term. That’s the main reason I persevered even though I wanted to stop. My friends said once you get the hang of it it’s sooo much easier and they were right.

It depends of sooo many things ! Breastfeeding relationship (yep every babies are diff) mother health, mental load, baby age ….

Newborn age :
- breastfeeding the first months for the first baby is extremely painful
- bottlefeeding is hard bc of the bottle washing sterilize…

After 6mo :
baby starts eating also and feeding are spaced. Is able to start to eat less at night. He put everything in his mouth so sterilize is no more super touchy :
- bottle feeding may starts to be easier ?
- breastfeeding can also make you nutrient deprived.. : As a mom who did 2 pregnancy and 2 breastfeeding journey back to back including breastfeeding while being pregnant, I feel WEAK. I have a super diet that helps but still ..

And baby attachement to breastfeeding : for example my 1st was super attached he could stay hours on my nipples just for comfort. My 2nd she doesn’t care, she gets distracted very quickly and its a battle to keep her on the boob if she’s not in a dark peaceful room

Avatar

Then also breastfeeding is super convenient technically, but it has bad side that you as the mom can’t be replaced and that can be hard. You have to time everything, stressed to be on time ….
I think there is no more convenient or less convenient overall… it’s just you and what’s works for you !
As a breastfeeding mom I can’t wait to end my journey (my goal is 1y, still 3mo to go) but at the same time I don’t want to - does it make sence lol ?

I’ve done both and they both have pros and cons but I’d say breastfeeding is more physically and mentally exhausting because your own body has to create this.

Avatar

They are demanding in different ways and feeding a child is demanding to unique families in different ways. Do you have time to pump? Do you have support to wash bottles? Do you have maternity leave to cover time needed to breastfeed or pump or prep bottles. It’s bizarre to me to compare the two because both have their unique demands and parents are historically under supported regardless of which method is best for their families.

Avatar

I've done both, they both have pros and cons! If your baby latches well and doesn't have any feeding issues and feeds in a decent amount of time then I'd definitely choose bf as easier but often that's not the case.

Avatar

I would say pumping and combo feeding. That was what I was doing with my nicu baby, and it was harder both mentally and physically. Then when I no longer was producing much of anything I switched to only formula. It was very hard mentally because I was just disappointed with my body. But I've been able to be more attentive and not have to worry about finding the time to pump, feed hi, and wash everything.

Avatar

Breastfeeding is hard emotionally and physically. Bottles is hard logistically. But my husband and my parents and my sister can all feed my child. It was never all on me.

Avatar

Needing to physically be the source of hunger, thirst, comfort, nap time, bed time is demanding. I've also made bottles for my best friends baby and the stress you're under trying to prepare it and cool it for them to drink is part of the reason I breastfed.
But 3 years vs 12 months also plays a factor. Breastfeeding demands a lot from you, your diet, your body. And being the only one who can do anything automatically increases the demand

Avatar

I have exclusively nursed two children and formula feeding does seem like a lot of work to me. Especially during the night and when leaving the house. I like not having to think about it or do any planning. He's hungry I just whip a boob out 😅

This being said though not all breastfeeding is the same. Breastfeeding is only more convenient for me because I'm not pumping. I would say the most demanding is if you are pumping and giving expressed milk.

Avatar

Formula can be given at room temperature yk 😅😅 the water just has to be boiled. You can literally have 3 bottles of water ready at any time and all you need to do is add the powder and shakey shakey and feed !!! Literally invest in those meterd powder linchbox things and your good to go. Only thing is the big bag carrying lol. And ofcourse it can be expensive. Bf is exhausting.

Avatar

I’ve done both and formula for me is ‘more work’ whereas breastfeeding is a lot ‘easier’. Hands down.

Ms.rachel

Do you and when did you start turning on ms.rachel for your little ones? My baby is 10 months and I don't turn on any screens for her but I have heard that people start early to help with speech development. Obviously in moderation. Any thoughts

Nursery

Hi, I am going to be a first time mum in December, at the moment we have a double bed in the spare room (which is going to be the nursery) my initial plan was to sell the bed, do people think this is a good idea.
Or during the night do you think it’s good to have in case baby won’t settle, and I can sleep in the spare room with him.
Preferably I would want to sleep in the same bed as my partner so hopefully won’t need it.
I just wondered what other people did?

Nursery bugs/loose bowels

Hi all my daughter started nursery 2 weeks ago on her third day at nursery she started with diarrhoea a few times a day leaking though her clothes then by Tuesday she started to go off her food and milk and had a slight temp so I took her to doctors, who said she just had a viral infection or something. Then by Wednesday/Thursday she started eating more food and milk food was getting a bit more firm and no temp then nursery rang Friday and said to get her because she had like 3 loose bowel movements and she’s really sore now and even today she’s still having loose poos I also noticed it’s a bit snotty/mucus and also smells like fish.

Had anyone had the same with there littles ones and what was it? I know babies pick stuff up at nursery but this has been going on over a week now but she’s just grumpy pretty much all the time and she’s normally really happy.

Taking toys away

This may seem dramatic for some, however me and my partner have decided, that tomorrow while my daughter (3) is in nursery we will be putting all her toys in storage and telling her they are in the bin. We will keep a few low stimulation ones like a few or her Dave books, and sensory things but everything else gone.
This is a result of her behaviour drastically over the last 6 months has been getting worse and worse. It is gotten to the point where she hits me with full fists, kicks me, pulls my hair, slaps me, throws all her hard toys at me, take toys and slams them against other surfaces to create noise especially when asked to keep it a low level. It’s also gotten to the point where if we ask “her lets keep feet on floor” or “let’s walk nicely” “hands to sled please” these are follow by a scream till her face is red, and repeated “no no no no” till she starts slapping her self, or starts having a melt down. To which we always intervene if she’s getting herself we say “no ouchies please” or she’s melting down, we cuddle her and comfort her, but doing this 5 times working 20-30 minutes is mentally draining.
And don’t get me started if I ever raise my voice god anyone walking by the house probably thinks this kid is being skinned alive.

So please comment away on if this is dramatic of us as parents, or if this may reduce the stimulation in her environment, or anything else ??

Bottle recommendations for my 3.5-week-old baby girl 🍼❤️

I’m breastfeeding and pumping for night feeds via bottle. We’re currently using MAM anti-colic bottles with size 0 teats (self-sterilising bottles), but we’ve noticed that our little one seems to gulp milk and swallow quite a lot of air during bottle feeds.

Although she burps after every feed, she develops hiccups around 15–20 minutes later, which makes her uncomfortable and disturbs her sleep. This happens after almost every bottle feed but not after breastfeeding.

We’ve also tried Tommee Tippee, but she experienced hiccups with those too.

Someone suggested using Lansinoh teats with MAM bottles, so I’d love to hear your experiences!

Also, Should we try extra slow flow or slow flow Lansinoh teats?

Any tips for reducing gulping, air intake and post-feed hiccups?

Would really appreciate your recommendations! ❤️
