Hot tub

Hey guys,
I am currently 35 weeks +1 day pregnant and due to celebrate my birthday (early) this weekend as it may fall when baby comes haha 😜. I wanted to find out what people’s thoughts are on using a hot tub in the third trimester? The NHS doesn’t have much research on it so I was a bit unsure..

I personally wouldn’t risk it due to the heat and the jets etc, I went away for Christmas and had to make sure we booked without a hot tub so I didn’t get more upset about not being able to relax in it 😂

There are no studies on it that will give you a definite yes or no answer. I personally would probably avoid it for the sake of a few weeks. And congratulations 🥰

Personally I wouldn’t. They generally advise against due to risk of infection and overheating (your baby is always hotter than you are remember). If you are going to a spa or somewhere they will prob have a sign up saying pregnant women can’t use it anyway. If you did want to take the risk, I think the advice is no longer than 10 minutes, so prob not worth it tbh! Maybe just sit on the side and dip your feet if allowed! X

I’d go in one purely because I still have hot baths and am a low risk pregnancy. Make sure you keep hydrated - don’t stay in to long and don’t use the jets would be my advice 😊 each to there own and you weigh up any risks you think you might have

I put my feet into one a few months ago but I’d take it the same rules as a hot bath. Keep hydrated and don’t stay in too long. I guess it’s really personal preference as there’s no definite research which states yes or no

If you’re low risk I don’t think you really need to worry. In Scandinavia and the Baltics it’s part of their day to day custom to use hot tubs and saunas and they continue through pregnancy there and no one worries there. It’s only a thing in certain cultures for some reason.

I would 🙂

I’d just turn the temperature down a couple of degrees, stay hydrated and don’t spent too long in it (maybe 20-30 mins at a time) but I have used one occasionally during both my pregnancies, I read the main risk was overheating and it was mainly during the first trimester so if you feel hot just sit on the side to allow your body to cool down x

Can you sit with your feet in…

I avoided one recently because it was wood fired so the temperature could’ve easily crept up whilst I was in it and as my body would’ve acclimatised, I wouldn’t have known so it could’ve gotten too hot without me realising.

However, if it’s a controlled one, I’d be a bit more likely to go in it. I’d take a drink in if possible and/or get out frequently just to make sure I don’t get too warm though.

There’s no real evidence and is one of the things that different countries have different guidelines about.

I’ve been in ours once during pregnancy and just turned down the heat to around 36 degrees.

It was outside in our garden and fairly fresh out. At no point did I feel ill and baths are hotter!

Also, just in case you were wondering - bubbles are not the issue, it is purely the heat

Avatar

Also. People have kids in hot countries all the time. Living on the equator some people can’t escape humid heats, and people haven’t died out in those areas 😂

I went to a spa last month and the advice was nothing over 36 degrees. I could go in all the pools, they actually felt very warm at that temperature but not hot tubs, saunas or steam rooms

Avatar

I personally chose to relax in a hot tub around 30 weeks, made sure it was no hotter than 36 degrees and took breaks whenever I felt myself getting a little too warm. 37 weeks now with no sign of trouble

Avatar

I would if I wanted to! Xx

They also say it can cause neural tube defects if you overheat (unproven) but by third trimester baby’s spine etc is already finished growing so it can’t affect it now.

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

New born

Finally had my baby girl via C-section on the 18th, everything has been so far. But I’ve noticed she’s very fussy and cries a lot. I’ve been trying to exclusively breastfeed. The lactation consultant at the hospital said I did look like I’m making enough milk for her. She was latching on good at the hospital and now here at home, she doesn’t seem to want to latch at all. She’s been crying a lot and very fussy. I’m just wondering is she’s colic or like maybe she just doesn’t want the breast anymore?

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣
