i am a single 21 year old mom, i completed one year of my nursing degree and then got pregnant so i put everything on hold. my maternity leave is now coming to an end and i need to decide if i’m going to go back this coming September or take one more year with my daughter. she will be 18 months in September (when she would start daycare) but she is so attached to me it makes me want to cry even thinking of how heartbroken she would be. On one hand i’ve heard how amazing day care can be developmentally for little ones, for her to get out and play with other kids her age and become more independent. it would also be good for me to get somewhat of a break and start to have a bit of my own life again, i want to be able to finish nursing school as soon as possible and provide the best life that i can for her. on the other hand she is only this little once, her and i have so much fun during our days at home together and i love being the one teaching her everything and exploring the world with her. i could always apply for welfare so i have a bit of an income to stay at home with her one more year.
i’m so lost on what to do as both options seem to have pros and cons 😩

Hiiii i also am a young college mom pursuing a degree in medicine. If i was you I would try daycare and going to school BUT if it is too much for you or her it is okay! At least yall tried. You can always try again the next year. Cherish yall time together and make happy fun memories.

I wasn't a single mom but I went back to school (online) when my daughter was 4 weeks old. My partner isn't responsible at managing money or holding a job so it was stressful for sure. You can take classes slowly, you don't have to give it up completely. There are scholarships and finical aid for single moms and you'll get more financial aid from fasfa if you claim your baby too. I'm almost finished with my associates and I paid nothing out of pocket. To be fair I did go to a jr college for that reason. Daycare is something I'm also thinking about, but my daughter is use to not always being around me and is very social. It may be a good idea to start exposing her to other children her age or have someone else watch her for a bit (if possible)
