We’ve been establishing a bed time routine with our three week old and I feel really good about how it’s going. Every couple nights we do a bath, and then every night we wipe his face/neck with a warm wash cloth, do a massage, and clean his mouth. Then we turn on rain sounds, swaddle, and rock him to sleep. He seems to really enjoy it so far and I love it. We have to exercise his tongue every three hours because he had his tongue tie clipped but I think if we didn’t have to do that he would have slept 4-5 hrs at a time last night. Technically you don’t have to do it at night but his already reconnected and had to get cut again so we’ve been super diligent. Wish us luck tonight!

I love this! I have a 3 week old and trying to establish something that can help baby boy know it’s time for bed.

We started a routine w our one month old last week. It’s similar to yours. It’s helped calm down his witching hour that was starting to happen like every night between 7 and 8pm.

that’s a big reason we started ours. He would be up between 1-3 only sleeping like twenty minutes at a time. It was driving me crazy. Also, I just learned this, if you pump only give night time milk at night because it contains melatonin, and your milk during the day contains higher cortisol levels. Melatonin levels start elevating around 8 and peaks between 12-2.

@ Hannah thanks for the tip about night time milk containing melatonin. What is your routine like during the day ?

we kind of just vibe during the day. We haven’t established a morning routine yet bc I’m still so tired in the morning. During the day we don’t do white noise, we don’t swaddle, and we don’t keep lights dim or tv off, and we’re never intentionally quiet night or day bc we want him to be able to sleep in busy environments. Now that I’m feeling better and more rested I want to implement daily walks, and do tummy time more regularly. If he’s awake long enough I’ll read him books but usually by the time he’s ate, been changed & buried, he’s back asleep.

@ Hannah thank you I’m doing the some of the same things too. I started tummy time but she cries lol
