What should my newborn wear in the house?

I'm due to give birth in February and want to be certain I'm buying the right things and dressing my baby properly for warmth! What should my baby be wearing in February in the house....a long sleeve or short sleeve body suit for the first layer and the second layer a sleep suit?

what i do, make sure the room temp is around like 70. nothing higher bc i don’t want the baby to be hot.

i put my daughter in a short sleeve onesie w socks and have her in a sleep sack throughout the day. at night when its a bit cooler, (this is just what i’ve done) id have her in a full onesie w socks in a swaddle. i did not ever put a hat on her head when she was sleeping bc its easy for babies to over heat that way.

this was just while she was a new born.

definitely do your research, see what other moms suggest, what the dr recommends, and ultimately what you’re gut tells you🥰🤍

Depends on the temp of ur home! U can find charts online on how to dress ur baby depending on temperature! The rule is one layer more than what you yourself have on a newborns cant regulate their body temperature yet.
My son is 16 months old and the temp at home is around 18 degrees but he is dressed in a long sleeve vest and then long sleeve pjs/sleepsuit/clothes as he was getting cold in a short sleeve sleeve vest under.
When he was born in September 2022 he also wore two long sleeve layers. I just made sure not to crank up the heat at home, that the top layer was not too thick and to check that he was not too hot by touching his chest and back.
If u are swaddling just be aware that is an extra layer. We didnt swaddle so maybe that’s why he was fine with two long sleeve layers!

One thing our pediatrician told us is to check the back of your baby's neck and that will give you the most accurate temp. Our LO always runs hot. What works for us is to also keep the temp at 70. At night we put on pj with feet and swaddle her. I bought long-sleeved white onsies I will put that and pants on her. During the day I will put on socks if her feet feel cold. Her feet sweat quickly so they usually don't stay on for too long. I have several lightweight swaddle blankets that I just use as a blanket during the day when needed. If we are going anywhere I will put another short-sleeved onesie over the long sleeve and a lightweight coat if we are going inside or her heavy coat if doing more outside stuff. One thing to note is that they can't wear the heavy coat in the car seat because it makes the harness unsafe. Layering in the winter is your best friend 🧡 Now at 18 months I still do this but with long sleeve shirts and pants under her dresses so I don't have to buy extra winter clothes!

In the uk autumn/winter long sleeve body suit and sleepsuit.
Spring - short sleeve bodysuit and sleepsuit
Summer - depending how crappy the uk summer is 😅 same as spring or just a sleepsuit or just a bodysuit!

Use your hand to feel the back of baby’s neck/top of their back to get an idea of their body temp. Hands and feet are often cold as their circulation is developing and tbh my toddlers hands and feet are always cold anyway!

Baby will also let you know if they are too cold! And also a rule of thumb is always one layer more than what you are wearing

Had my baby last February and we dressed him in short sleeve bodysuit and sleepsuits, he contact napped for weeks so was always warm enough in that. In the night he wore the same and was in a 2.5 tog sleeping bag xx

around that time of year usually a short sleeve vest/sleepsuit/add a cardigan if it’s cold! as a newborn honestly dong bother with “proper outfits” until they are in age 0-3+!

rule of thumb is one extra layer than you have on!

Mine wears a shor sleeve vest and a sleepsuit during the day, temp in the house is around 18c. During the night is a long sleeve vest and sleepsuit. Sometimes it's a warmer sleepsuit.

Baby clothes

Just out of curiosity, why do parents love zipper onesies?

Don’t get me wrong, I tried zipper ones it’s easy to zip in and out when putting it on the first time and taking it out, but I find it difficult when changing diapers especially when baby is asleep.

I prefer those kimono style buttons where it’s easy to button or too down button with crotch snaps.

Is everyone thinking the same or different? Lol

Dummy

My baby has had a dummy since about 2 weeks old (now 5 months) and over the course of the last month we weaned her off it during the day only for naps and night (which was fine) and then 5 days took it completely away during the day.

The first day no dummy was fine, the second bit rougher. But now it feels impossible she just moans and cries all the time it takes ages for her to go down to sleep (she’s always been an amazing sleeper)

I thought it was meant to get better as time went on not worse. I’m at my wits end I dunno what to do.

Currently typing this as she screams uncontrollably in the car and I cry with her cos I can’t do anything.

Of these two, which seems more overall “demanding” to you, overall? Lighthearted poll, not putting anyone down 🫶🏼

As a mum who breastfed for 3 years, I think formula feeding seems 100x harder and more demanding. I give those mamas all the credit because I could not keep up with that faff haha. I truly don’t understand why people say breastfeeding is more effort, other than the fact that no one else can do it. But personally I’d take that over endless bottle prep & cleaning.

Is this normal?

My 12m old is really funny with kids going near him, he’s always been this way, but anytime family’s kids sit next to him or head his way he moans or cries and moves away. He also really observes them and is never really relaxed, always looking over his shoulder. Has anyone experienced this? (He’s starting nursery properly tomorrow so hoping this helps) but is this normal?

8 week immunisations

My 8 week old has his first set of injections tomorrow and I’m abit nervous. Does anyone have any advice for after the jabs? I know they get a temp after so have got some calpol to give just before hand. Should I put him to bed in less clothing to make sure he doesn’t get too hot? Any tips from your experience with first set of immunisations? Am I worrying more than I need to? 😅
