We have an elective section booked in for early Feb. This is my first baby so I don’t really know what to expect. I was advised to pack paracetamol and ibuprofen, is there anything else useful to pack in my hospital bag for pain relief or just recovery after? I’ve heart 💩”ing may be difficult afterwards, understandably!
Also how do I look after the wound afterwards?
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated 🤍

I had an emergency section on Boxing Day, definitely pack paracetamol and ibuprofen, (they give you that in hospital anyway but just in case) high waisted underwear and pads. I used the Frida mom disposable underwear and they were a life saver as they were high up and didn’t irritate me!
Once I got back home I set up a little box of things for the bathroom such as pads, underwear, peri bottle, breast pads so I had everything to hand I wish I set it all up before he arrived.
Best of luck! 🤍🤍

Are you in the US or elsewhere? Cause I'm the US, they provide pain relief there. They don't like you bringing your own, so they can know what you have taken.
Care for the wound is very easy. Just keep it dry and rinse with water.

They will give paracetamol & ibuprofen during your stay but definitely still pack some and have a stash ready for when you are home.
Peppermint tablets were also a blessing though you can also have it in tea - really helps with trapped wind and bloating which is really common after a section. Maternity pads are a must along with high waisted knickers not to aggravate the scar. Keep with nighties rather than pjs because of the wound & same for clothing, try and stick with dresses. I can’t remember exactly how long but they will tell you not to get the wound or dressing wet. It can be a little painful when they first remove the dressing or if you do it at home so take your time peeling it off. Peri bottle also amazing to have in the hospital. I didn’t have an overhang so recovery was quick and scar healed super lovely & fast. With an overhang the area is more likely to get warmer so recovery at home will be harder to tend to but everyone has their own way of keeping it dry and clean x

Stool softener.
They gave me dihydrocodeine and it’s incredible pain relief but painkillers block you up. I wasn’t in any proper pain but the bathroom discomfort was rough, once I got on top of that it was fine xx

I said screw it and went for the adult sized nappies and they were a dream. No messing around with pads and wrappers.
They also gave me a laxative around 8 hours after surgery and gave me a bottle to take home too which worked on the second day.
My wound was covered for five days so no real care was needed. It’s healed perfectly and I just shower as usual but avoid harsh soaps or letting my shampoo/conditioner get on it. I’m three weeks post c section and I feel almost like I’m back to my old self!
Just don’t forget to take your meds. Keep on top of it as you really don’t want that pain breakthrough and try and walk around the house as much as you feel able to help with swelling in legs or ankles which is really common afterwards.
Xxx

Take buscopan, pop one straight after

Ps I didn't tell them about the buscopan lol 😆 my partner had gut surgery and whenever your intestines get touched they can freeze/'postoperative ileus' for quite a while. He was in horrific pain for hours after as they took hours and hours to prescribe him some buscopan. Now we take it to every surgery like that and don't tell anyone 😆
