Floor Bed for Infant

I moved my baby into a floor bed a week ago for the exact same reasons. We started off with no frame and switched to a Montessori bed frame we found on Amazon. It had a gate on it, but eventually we’ll take it off because once he gets standing, he’ll be able to flip over the side. It’s pretty decent for the price, but if you know anyone crafty or with the right tools, I would recommend building your own frame. Make sure you put a polythene sheet or some wooden slats on the bottom to prevent from mold and moisture build up. And we just went with a firm, breathable, queen mattress, also from Amazon. I would just say do it! The earlier the better in my opinion. I made a similar post on first time mums and got a lot of positive responses from mothers who’ve had it for a while now. Just make sure to baby proof room, as baby will be able to roam freely in their space.

he doesn’t roll himself off? Or is that what the gate is for? I’m trying to figure something out because my daughter keeps sticking her hands and feet in between the slats of the crib and bumping her head on the crib itself lol

so we co-sleep and before I got the frame, yes, he rolled himself off, but we have foam play puzzle pieces that made it as if he didn’t even hit his head, so there wasn’t any harm. But it made me anxious enough to get the frame and, yes that’s what the gate is for to keep them in the bed. But floor beds by nature will promote more independence for them because, no matter how hard you try, they will eventually be able to get out of the bed, gate or no gate. So I would say to just take extra precautions for your own piece of mind. If you get a large enough bed, with room for them to roll and move without hitting the edge, then I would say bed bumpers. As long as you’re cautious throughout the day during nap times, and monitor them, I would say the risk of suffocating is minimal. But there is still a risk, so keep that in mind. Since we co-sleep I’m able to keep him away from the slats throughout the night, so I don’t use the bumpers. But I do have those foam puzzle pieces 1/2

around his bed frame so if he were to find a way out, he wouldn’t hurt himself on the floor. This article helped me make an informed decision and also gave me more insight to what I needed to do to prepare for this transition.

I have a mini crib and he straight up cannot fit sideways in it and wants to lay in that exact position so, trust me, I understand 😭😭😭

we have floor bed with a big play pen atm, gonna move to a frame eventually but my husband and i are still deciding if we want a tod bed or go straight to big kids by then. We use a kids twin mattress, most floor bed mattress r recommended to be 6” in case of rolling.

we just started the floor bed! It’s been going great and much better sleep, she’s fallen off maybe twice but she’ll get the hang of it !

thank you for the update! Glad to hear it's going great. We still haven't started the floor bed as we were away quite a bit this month. Just returned from a vacation and will focus on getting it started. Will let you know how's going 😊
