Never met same midwife !

I thought we all had one midwife?

Same story, every appointment I had a different one... from St.Mary's Hospital

I think I’ve seen mine 2/3 times the whole 9 months I’m low-key wondering who’s gonna be there when I give birth 😅

I'm same here. Been seeing different midwives and I was wondering (had same question in mind) thanks for mentioning it.

Same here, i am 33 weeks, only met midwife once and every other appointment midwives were different. This is my 3rd pregnancy never had this with my 1st and 2nd. I did find it a little odd but hospital said they are understaffed so not sure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m the opposite.. I’ve seen the same midwife at every single appt. To the point they’ve pushed my next appointment back at week to 37 weeks due to her being on annual leave when I’m 36 weeks 🙈

I have seen the same midwife every time but all other appointments are random but I be fair on the day you will just get whoever is on duty anyway. I definitely think you should say something at your next appointment if you like, they should give you a more consistent service.

I met my midwife at my booking appointment and she was the one named on my notes as my midwife…never saw her again. Every appointment, I had a different midwife see me. The only consistent care I got was in PAU as I had to go 2-3 times a week (and was also admitted twice for blood clot in the lung & leg) so got to know the girls up there and 2 midwives in particular would look after me while I was in. Other than that, it was very inconsistent care Xx

I have only met my community midwife once in person and I've seen her in a microsoft teams meeting that was important but other than that I've not seen her. I have met my perinatal midwife way more though because I've now transferred my hospital care to another hospital I have another perinatal midwife now from just before Christmas who I have met once and will be seeing her again on Friday. I have a perinatal midwife as in my first pregnancy I had been diagnosed with purpuel physcosis after I had my baby (in 2009 when baby was only 11 days old) so everyone will be keeping an eye on me for a while after this baby is born just to make sure i don't get ill again though this time I'm on medication as i have also got a diagnosis of bipolar which was diagnosed in 2013 xx

I had this with my first but I don’t know whether this was because we were in lockdown and living in Essex at the time.
We moved to Hampshire and we have a continuity team so my midwife was the same throughout my second pregnancy. When I found I was pregnant again she messaged me congratulations but she was just going off to have her own baby and coincidentally my current midwife is the one that ended up delivering my second baby.
Maybe each trust has different guidelines.
How are you finding it with the different midwives? Xx

I have a named midwife and have seen her 3 times. The other 2, it has been someone else. I really didn’t like not seeing her as there is no continuity of care. Same with consultants, I haven’t seen the same one twice. The last one I saw was amazing and I’d like to see her again but it’ll be someone else again

I only saw one, until 2months after i moved which is how long it took them to transition me over, so only just seeing my new midwife from 37 weeks. Every appt has been so quick and clinical / box ticking no time for chit chat/advice, no chance to build rapport even with the same midwife. Also they’ve said it’s very unlikely i’d get that midwife when i’m in labour & even in the rare chance i did, it might only be a short moment as they change shifts every 12 hours. Also they may not be on shift at all, already at another birth or in the clinic attending to other appts like they did with us.

Yep same here, 37w. Never the same person, UCLH is a massive hospital - it depends on who’s on shift.

I’ve been told I’ll be assigned my midwife the day I deliver 🙈 which is now 3 and a bit weeks away (specific early date cos I’m on insulin)

This is normal as continuity of care means seeing the same team of midwives, not one named midwife.

It has been the same for me. Not even once I’ve met the same midwife. It’s different people every time with different opinions. Like one midwife told me to take Gavascon liquid for my heart burns and then the other in different appointment asked me to switch to tablets instead. It is so confusing.

Same tbh! Hate this because theres no consistency or way to build a relationship and no idea who my main midwife will be when im in labour

This can be totally normal but I think it's rubbish 👎 I'm lucky where I've had my midwife all the way through & I have to see her every week I also had her when I had my lg 3 yrs ago. Now & then I see a different one & it frustrates me as you have to constantly explain yourself as they don't no anything about you 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yup! With my first pregnancy i saw a different midwife each appt and now its the same too 😂

I think nhs is struggling a lot with staff and of before was normal to have always the same person , now is impossible to them , so they work as a team in most hospitals. I am 36+3 moved from royal free to Croydon hospital and I never met the same midwife

it definitely feels odd and like I have to ask the same questions and update each one
