Looking for advice/ideas how to stop nursing my baby back to sleep during the night. He’s 8 months old and takes his naps in his crib daily (2 per day) and goes to bed at 8 every night in his crib. During the day I never feed him to sleep, but if he wakes up during the night I always have fed him back to sleep. Recently though he’ll sleep from 8 until 11:30 or so latest and then wake up, I feed him but he won’t go back to sleep. He doesn’t get sad right away at least not when I’m holding him but he’d probably be ready to play. He’s basically treating that first stretch as a nap and not night time sleep. I’ve gotten up with him about a week ago and was up with him for his whole wake window. But he keeps doing it, last night we let him cry himself back to sleep. But I’m wondering what the best option is as I’d rather not just let him cry every night this happens :( but looking to break the feed to sleep habit if possible too! Any advice would be appreciated❤️

Hey, so I eliminated a middle of the night bottle from my baby around 4 or 5 months and added into his day time feeding so not sure if it’ll be same but here’s what I did…
I made his routine strict and consistent until he caught on which was only about a week. I start his bed time routine one hour before bed which is a bath, then a little massage while putting on lotion and lastly a bottle. The bath whines him down so much I have to keep him woke to finish the bottle sometimes. I did everything at the exact same time for a week and when he would wake up in the middle of the night I give him his pacifier and just shush for a minute, I started using a sound machine a couple months ago and it’s great. The first few nights might be rough since their used to the bottle but it didn’t take long to break the habit. And I don’t always give him a bath every night still but it doesn’t affect his sleep. I know that was long but hopefully it helped.
thank you that’s really helpful! When you’d put him back down in the middle of the night did you just let him cry it out until he fell back asleep?

His pacifier typically soothes him so he didn’t really cry but if he did I let him stay in the crib because the one time I took him out to hold him he woke woke up
okay yeah me too, every time I try and talk to him or shush him it just ramps him up. He won’t take a pacifier though so I’ll see how it goes without! Thanks for your help (:

Glad to help! The sound machine might be helpful if a pacifier doesn’t work
