Eating folate rather than folic acid?

Hi, I’ve always stayed away from supplements and medication but now I am 5 weeks I keep seeing Folic acid should be taken up until 12 weeks. Currently I have been consuming food with folate throughout the day by calculating but should I include folic acid supplements as well? I’m worried that I will over consume folate/folic acid. I haven’t had my appointment with my midwife yet so I am unsure. What have you girlies been advised?

I would take it I was advised to take it straight away even if you get it through your diet I think it’s difficult to get enough from food when pregnant why pregnant woman are advised to have it. Also I did a quick search too much is never an issue it’s just too little can lead to complications for the baby and their development

i started taking the pregnancy supplements from tesco as soon as i found out i was pregnant, they have the folic acid and vitamins etc, i don’t think you can over consume as such, i think it’s better to have too much than too little as then it can lead to issues for both you and baby and can lead to anaemia. i would personally recommend still taking folic acid or a pregnancy supplement x

It’s really really hard to over consume folate/folic acid, especially because even best quality foods will only give you a tiny amount of folate. In pregnancy you need folate not only for your digestion and health, but to make sure baby develops well. The 400mcg per day supplement is the recommended in the UK taking in consideration a healthy, well supplemented lifestyle and diet, in the USA the dosage goes up to 800mcg of supplementation and your body deals well with up to 5mg of folate (which are practically impossible to reach on a 2000kcal daily diet, even if all the foods you consume contain folate) so the chances of over consuming folate are really minimal if you follow recommendations. Hope this helps!!

My friend fell pregnant and because she wasn't on folic acid supplements her consultant ended up writing her a prescription for 3 times the normal amount - it's that important. It would probably be a good idea to take it throughout pregnancy. Your midwife will also likely recommend Vit D as that can be hard to get through diet alone. You might also find that you need iron supplements later in pregnancy. It's tricky if you're not used to taking supplements but those 3 are important for health of you and baby x

Hello just a heads up that I own my own wellness and nutrition company. I sell supplements but like anything that is man made, not all are born equal. Let’s face it even some food isn’t born equal and quality is something I’m incredibly passionate about.
If your looking for one of the best brand out there I recommend Zita West she makes the best ones and they what I take. Plus they don’t make you feel sick. Hope this helps x

Vegans tend to consume far more folate than non vegans, and I worked out I was on about 800mcg of folate a day or even more. I still took the 5mg extra dose, although they didn't give me that until 12 weeks by mistake so I was just on the normal prenatals until that point.
Definitely supplement your vit D as we do not get enough from environment alone - we do get it added to foods though, but still, you can't get too much while you need to take it. X

I also don't take anything unless I'm pregnant. You really can't get enough and folic acid really is so important! I started before falling pregnant and always take omegas.

Lost friends since being a mum

Good morning! Can anyone relate to this!

My two friends and me have always been close since our early teens. I’m the first to have a baby.

One friend has big house, career and boyfriend

Other out of a long term relationship and being single having fun etc

Before baby we would all hang at my
Apartment, chat eat and just have
Fun.

Now I don’t even get a text to ask how my baby is, how I am. I really thought they would be awesome aunties. But honestly they don’t care.

They meet up a lot to do cool things, which I can’t be upset about as I can’t as I have my baby.

I don’t know I feel sad about it.

Am I over reacting?

31 weeks pregnant and lonely

How to deal with loneliness in pregnancy when your boyfriend goes out with his friends drinking 😅🥲 I only have three friends, two are never really free and one lives back in Liverpool and has her own set of friends where she goes to raves and goes on holiday with them lol. My boyfriend is going out soon for the night as it’s sunny and I’ll just be sat here crying like every single time! When does it stop 🤣
