Apparently according to badger notes I am 4/5 engaged at 38 weeks.
I thought engagement was rated out of 5 so that 5/5 meant he was right down on the pelvis but I think it’s the opposite?
My question is- why do they even record or measure engagement when they also say it has nothing to do with when labour will start?
Also for any second time+ mamas, did you find this in your experience? Eg that level of engagement means nothing about when labour will start?

Apparently 4/5 or 5/5 is basically doesn't mean much 🙈 xx

It works backwards which makes no sense to non medical people so 1/5 0/5 would be fully engaged (I only know from my first), on my 40 week appt with my first he was fully engaged and finally gave birth 4 days overdue after induction
Ooooooo and to make it more confusing some places online it says the opposite or it’s like negative numbers like -1/5 😂

With my first I was 2/5 engaged at my 40 week appointment and gave birth later that night.
This baby I’m already 3/5 engaged at 33 weeks, don’t think it makes a difference x

4/5 (or whatever is noted down) is how much of the head they can feel just above the pelvis, so technically only 1/5 would be in your pelvis if tjat makes sense?
I when your notes say baby is 2/5 that’s when they begin to class them as fully engaged I believe! As Most of the Head is in Place 🥰

Mine is the other way, I was 1/5 at my 34 week appointment and then at 36 weeks midwife said baby is further in pelvis at 2/5, so it's as if the number is in relation to amount in pelvis rather than amount out of pelvis, confusing and not really sure it means much

Sorry to jump on, but where do you check on badger notes how engaged you are? X

Maternity record > SWHMR antenatal > Have a scroll and see dates of last appointment and should be a bit that says engagement x

thank you so much 🥰 x

The opposite is true in labour, for some stupid reason 1/5 and 0/5 is fully engaged, not the other way around 🙄
