Hi i have a growth scan on wednesday at 6pm which means i have to leave work at 5 to make the appointment, i work 3.30-6pm, the government website says they have to pay me for time off for the appointments but im certain my company will try to wiggle out of paying me the last hour of my shift. Anyone any idea if they can refuse to pay me. I know its only an hours pay but it adds up and i cant afford to lose it.

They have to pay you for any appointments and classes you have related to pregnancy. They can’t refuse to pay you.

i use an app to sign into and out of work, i think they are going to say because the appointment is at 6pm its not in work hours.

they can't really do that as the government also states that they have to cover the travel time as well as the appointment time. The company I work for is always going extra mile to make sure they pay us as little as they can, but they never questioned any of mine, even when I was off full day

It doesn’t matter, they can’t refuse you the pay. I take off full mornings and afternoons when I have any appointments because I work an hour away from where my midwife appointments are so everytime I have an appointment if normally is about 3 hours including the travelling. My employer doesn’t even question it. It’s pathetic if they are serious about deducting one hour off you (which they’re not allowed anyway)

Thank you both, i have emailed the appointment and the government guidelines to my supervisor. i signed out a minute early a few weeks ago and they took 15 minutes off me. Honestly they are awful, hoping that the contract gets taken over in April.

Your employer sounds like a delight! 😬

Didn’t even know how to do a risk assessment. 🙈 im a cleaner in a school but its outside contract, they wanted me to still come down the stairs backwards when brushing and mopping. X
