Small Bump

Hey everyone, currently 29 weeks plus 3 and have had so many people say my bump is very neat or that I don’t look as pregnant as I am. Even had someone ask me today if baby is growing ok. I’m just wondering if anyone else is in this situation? Not only is it making me self-conscious but also worried that something is wrong. Had a scan at 28 weeks and was told baby was measuring fine and weight was estimated at 2lbs 12oz. Problem is, as it’s my first child I have no idea if this is normal or not😭 Photo of bump taken yesterday for reference.

I went into labour at 41+2 with my first and walked past women waiting for their 20 week scans who looked further along than me 😂 and my chunk was born 8lb 8oz. If your midwife isn’t concerned, don’t worry about it

I’m also 29+3 ☺️. With my first. I’m looking pretty big at this point now. My colleague is 30+1 and she’s far smaller than me. I just think it varies a lot from person to person. I felt really self conscious for a good while about showing far more than her. We will beat ourselves up over our appearance no matter what I swear

We all carry differently! I find commenting on the size of someone’s bump a big no-no, many people who say “oh you look great from xyz weeks, you’re so tiny” think they’re being nice but whether you say they’re small or they’re big you run the risk of making a mama feel self conscious and/or panicked. Your bump is perfect for you, at this very point in this very pregnancy and that’s all that matters x

I'm 35 + 5 and I still don't look that pregnant. Some people haven't even noticed I'm pregnant. It is worrying me, but I keep having to tell myself that all midwife appointments have been fine so I'm trying not to worry

I had a small bump all the way to the end and was 1 week overdue and was always told I had a neat bump. It was great as I felt fine all pregnancy, didn’t need a pregnancy pillow as wasn’t uncomfortable sleeping, back and joints were all fine and could keep going right up to when I gave birth to a healthy size baby boy 😊 As long as all the scans say your baby is fine there’s no problem.

I had a small bump… went into labour at 37+3. Turned up on delivery suite & a nurse asked me what I was there for 😂😂 Baby was 2.5 weeks early & weighed 6lbs3 so perfect x

You look absolutely 👍 and as long as scans are ok nothing to worry xxx it’s might be how the baby is positioned too

I didn't look pregnant at 31 weeks and that's when I delivered

People can be so rude! I know its hard but just ignore them. Everyone carries differently. I was showing at 17wks (1st time mum) and had a massive bump, that people always asked if I'm sure there was only one.

A lot of things factor in like height and muscle tone. My coworker recently gave birth, was a full trimester ahead of me, and I always looked bigger than her because I’m so short.

@Kath I also started showing at 17 weeks. I’ve decided the fake bellies used on TV are closer to a 28 weeks for most women so people don’t know what to do when they see a real pregnant woman.

I carried ‘small’ for most of the pregnancy then just popped about 38 weeks! And my little one was born 8lb 9oz so I definitely wouldn’t be concerned if your growth scans are all okay 🥰

I think your bump looks great! I’m coming up to 26 weeks and still waiting to properly pop. I’ve had a few people say how tiny the bump is but I feel her move and know everything is okay so I’m not worried! I’m thinking of it as a good thing and praying I don’t get too big 😂

If your doctor has no cause for concern, you’re fine.

You look like you’re carrying really well and healthy. I was ‘small’ too and had people comment on it, I got so self conscious actually I started working from home because the comments from my co workers in the office made me cry 😢 As I got closer to my due date I looked bigger but I never had one of those massive bellies. Bonus was that I had no stretch marks and my stomach was flat again within a few days of giving birth. Other than my cesarean scar my stomach doesn’t even look like I’ve had a baby

I went through my whole pregnancy without anyone knowing I was pregnant! My son stopped growing at 33-34 weeks and came out weighing 5lbs but I didn’t show any of that until the last second… then I was induced so lol to the outside world I was pregnant for about a week before coming home with a baby lol

I'm 32 weeks and am finally starting to actually look pregnant! I spent the first 2 trimesters comparing myself to others and kind of wishing I was showing more, but now that I am, I can't imagine getting any bigger! Count your blessings 🙏 If babes is healthy and you are healthy that is all that matters 🤗 The bigger I get the more uncomfortable I get and the harder it becomes to do simple things, I'm glad this is just now starting for me as some women can't put their own shoes on much earlier

I never had a big bump and my lo was 8lb 2oz when she was born. In fact some people would be visibly shocked when I said I was pregnant especially towards the end. For about 6 months I could have just said I was bloated. 😅 as long as baby is growing well and the midwife isn't concerned I wouldn't worry! You may find over the next couple of weeks you look bigger on some days depending on bubbas position. My little miss had a habit of sticking her bum out so I'd end up with a pointy bump 😅

I barely was showing at all until well into third trimester lol. Anytime people asked me how far along I was they were shocked when I'd say 8 months. On the bright side, my stomach literally disappeared the moment he came out. Now people are like "if i hadn't seen you before I would've never guessed you just had a baby!" Lol. My boy came a month early & was just over 5lbs and is now 6 1/2 lbs. growing fine, lungs were strong, no steroids needed. Don't worry about it at all! Looks like you have a longer torso like me, which can result in a smaller bump since baby has more vertical room!

This happened with me! I had a neat bump and would get upset when people would question my bump size ‘you’re 7 months, you look like you’re 4’. I got so upset at one point and burst into tears! The annoying thing was when people would brush past me e.g at busy shopping centre or something, not realising I’m pregnant . Later on the ‘baby on board’ badge for London Underground came in handy to resolve this issue 😂 Baby was measuring fine throughout, and weighed a healthy 7 lbs 7! See it as a positive - it’s actually such a blessing. In the end I was grateful to have a small bump, less weight to have to worry about losing after the birth!

@Danielle I was similar, at 20 week scan I had no bump at all and so many people had made comments that I was convinced something was wrong. As soon as the sonographer showed the heartbeat and said ‘all looking good’ I burst into tears. He soon told me that unless people have a medical degree, to tell them to shove their opinions up their ass 😂

@Danielle it’s so horrible isn’t it! People are insensitive - even though they might not mean to be, its just not a good feeling. Haha I love the sonographers commentary! All our bodies are different, it makes sense that we will all carry and show differently!
