Looking for any advice on how to get my toddler to eat his meals. He’s 22 months old and always been quite a good eater, not usually fussy he’ll try almost anything.
But for the last 2 weeks or so he’s been refusing breakfast dinner and tea! He’s having snacks but we’ve cut down on those to see if he’ll eat better but no. I’m offering alternatives at meal times even though I know he’s going to refuse it. Not sure if it’s down to teething if so what can I do apart from calpol etc ? He drinks quite abit of juice but he’s also not drank much of that lately so I know he’s not filling himself up on juice.
Thanks in advance. Just losing my mind now! It’s extremely frustrating. I know they go through phases but he must be bloody hungry!

Mine will only eat at nursery 🙄 but at home only eats snacks. I try and offer fruit, cheese, pouches so I know she has some kind of nutrition and they’re filling her up. We offer the meals and she sometimes has some if she sits in my lap rather than her high chair. Keep offering and hopefully he’ll go back to normal.

So I’ve just been through this with my little one and I’ll give you advice I was given if you don’t mind..
Don’t offer alternatives, they will not starve themself,
Allow them to be involved in the food preparation process
Let them feel like they are choosing the dinner eg give options, do you want pasta or fish. Ask them do you want this fork or this fork (spoon)
This way it feels as if they are choosing for themselves.my girl is so independent and it’s difficult to deal with. However all the above has helped with food and life in general.
Hope this helps some.

Omg!! Literally experiencing the same thing. He’s the same age as well. Tbf I’ve notice he’ll say no but after my oldest starts eating he done will start eating but it’s taking time. I’m also trying to make food I know he likes, which helps. And I cut down the amount of snacks he has. Hope this helps xx

Mine eats everything including veg at nursery! At home he refuses everything, it’s stressing me out!

This has also been the case in our house recently. Some days he eats well and then he will just go off food.

I second all of Lauren’s advice, it is difficult to see them not eating but they will eat. Also I was given advice to keep your distance when they are eating and don’t fuss over them, sometimes it takes my LO a good few minutes after refusing to then start eating it. Also show absolutely no emotion particularly negative emotions. If they don’t eat it after a few minutes take it away without saying anything and then if they start crying because they want food just give the same meal back and repeat the cycle once more. If after the 3rd time remove the food and end mealtime. Don’t offer an alternative and certainly don’t offer snacks etc as they then won’t be hungry for the next meal. They will eat if they are hungry. Most food refusal isn’t to do with the food. My LG would refuse every meal at lunch until I worked out with my health visitor she probably wasn’t hungry. Since altering her routine and cutting down her bottle of milk in the morning she now eats with a lot less fuss. Xx
