Iām due my second and slightly worried. Iām a teacher and will be going back to work. I wonāt have much support as my family work and my partner usually works away midweek. I think Iām going to ask to return part time x

same situation. First will be in preschool and second will be 9 months. Partners job is very demanding with the odd London/Ireland trip. I currently work 4 days a week and I still feel this is too much. I end up trying to work on the Monday to get ready for the week while also wrangling a toddler who doesnāt day nap anymore š

Aw really itās tough isnāt it. Iām the same my partner can be in Scotland, London and all over its very rare heās got local work. My eldest child will be 11 so sheās able to get herself ready etc and help but I feel my day off will be catching up as my job is demanding too plus I am a senco so I have extra responsibilities. Maybe I need a 3 day working week although I donny think work would be impressed šš

it really is⦠Iām not sure what your dynamics are like but my partner is definitely the ābreadwinnerā and itās hard to justify how much time I need to do my job (prep lessons, mark, give class work feedback, parents evenings - the list never ends) when my pay compared to his just isnāt worth the time I have to put in. But the job still needs doing⦠how sad though. Weāre considering doing less days and less pay just to be able to manage our jobs better on our ādays offā š„²
I mean the school has a legal obligation to āmake reasonable adjustmentsā to help support your return. Iād ask for 3 if itās financially possible and just see what school say. If they say no then at least then theyād have to accept 4. Iāve compared my pay with people who work 5 days a week and after tax, NI etc, the difference is minimal.

I work full time running my own salon. I work two late nights and wouldnāt be able to do these without their dad picking them up from nursery. Other than that I do all the drop offs and pick ups. It really is hard work but financially we are much better off me working. X

I know when you put it like that itās really sad isnāt it. Youāre right they need to make reasonable adjustments. My partner is the breadwinner but I like having my wage too I like the independence but I think we should be fine if I do 3 days a week. Oh really thatās really interesting I could do with looking at what the difference would be. X

I do work , domestic at a hospital, my fella has the kids in evening while I work

absolutely! Iād be bored out of my mind if I didnāt work. But Iām just finding 4 days is still too much. I used https://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php to see what my net pay would be. Itās bang on to the dollar. Only thing I had to adjust was the pension percentage. I used an old one and just kept playing around with numbers until it matched my payslip. Then used those numbers for .8 and .6 off the full time salary. Thank goodness daycare is becoming a lot cheaper with the 30 funded hours. 3 days might be a sweet spot.

ahh I know I would too! Thank you so much for that, I will have a go and work out my wage!
