I’m 43 and have a 4 month old. I was fit and doing yoga before the birth but completely stopped after. I feel so stiff and sore! Has anyone had great success with pelvic floor physiotherapy, and/or any other rehab/exercise, postpartum? I’m not sporty and I don’t care about weight loss. I just want to feel stronger and more energetic, and less rusty!

YES! I have been going to pelvic floor PT since I was 30 and diagnosed with hypertonic pelvic floor dysfunction, well before ever being pregnant. I have been to 6 therapists in the past decade, and only about half of them were good, with one in particular being excellent. PT has taught me so much about my body and how it works and how to care for it. After a few sessions, I start to feel so much better. I encourage you to go and try it out. And if it doesn’t do anything for you, try another therapist and another one… because they are all kind of different. I wish you the best of luck!

Unfortunately my insurance didn’t cover pelvic floor therapy but I started doing yoga and pelvic floor exercises that I found on YouTube, and it was a life saver, I feel so much better.

My sister is a PT and she and all her PT friends have explained in depth that every woman needs pelvic floor therapy really before and after birth but healthcare simply hasn’t caught up to ensure it’s done yet! Extremely beneficial!

Yes! My insurance didn’t cover it so I only went a little. It was super helpful during that time

wow thank you! I’ll try to find someone!

Awesome - thanks everyone!

I see a woman named Alex at foundation therapy (front st location) she is both a pelvic floor physio and strength and conditioning physio! I’ve really liked working with her so far even though we didn’t do pelvic floor (I had seen someone else), I like that she had that knowledge since I was working on physio/strength post partum.

oh awesome! Actually I generally need some physio for my back and shoulder anyway so maybe she’ll be perfect!

She does it all!! Super knowledgeable and you can have more active or passive treatments ☺️ good luck! The body and joint pain is very real haha

good to know! I also have a hypertonic pelvic floor. Would you be willing to share some of the exercises that worked for you? I can’t get to a pt anytime soon so would love to try what I can at home. Thanks!

it’s more of massage. You could try doing it yourself with a wand. It’s ideal to at least see a therapist once and have them teach you if possible, but if not there are videos and things online
For exercises, happy baby yoga pose is good. Also check out Dr. Bri’s Vibrant Pelvic Health social media. She shares some exercises sometimes

so helpful thanks!!

What us hypertonic pelvic floor? I am nit sure what I have
