Hi all, I’m 27 weeks pregnant and I’m seeing a lot of mums having a 28 week growth scan. I’m not booked in for anymore scans as far as I’m aware. My last scan was the 20 weeks scan.
How will they be able to tell roughly how big/heavy baby is without another scan?
Thanks! X

Hihi I have 28th antenatal appointment with the community midwife and she measure my bump and plot the growth chart xxx

You only need a growth scan if midwife thinks you’re plotted too high or low on growth chart. If everything looks consistently fine at all your next midwife apps then you won’t get any more scans xx

I have growth scans because of a previous low birth weight baby. You only have them if there's an issue really with previous pregnancy, or you're high risk or when the midwife is measuring your fundal height there's an issue. You can get growth scans privately outside of the NHS. Hope this helps. Wishing you all the best xxx

Heyya, I'm 29+4, low-risk and pregnant with my 1st. I had a 28wk scan as my bump was measuring small at 26cm (10th percentile is 28cm). They just wanted to make sure that my baby was still growing well; she is fine, everything is as it should be with her growth, she's just awkward 😂 - the poor scan lady had a right laugh trying to get measurements as our baby kept rolling away and kicking as she took the photos 😂😂😂. They haven't booked another growth scan yet, but they might do another at 32wks, if my bump hasn't caught up by then 😊 xx

Hi! I booked my 28weeks scan in a private clinic!

Without scan I am not sure!!

People will only have extra scans if there’s a risk of baby being small or any issues with placenta. Unless you’re here’s a medical reason or concern you won’t be offered one with nhs

I’ve got extra scans cos I’m class as high risk xxx

Have you got a planned pathway chart? In my notes the standard pathway for all mothers is 12, 20 and 36 weeks scan even if this isn’t your first pregnancy. Im having a couple of growth scans too but mine do offer a 36 week scan to gauge approximate growth and position - but with some of the responses you have already, it may be down to each individual trust.

I have extra scans as Im measuring small (did with my first too but he was big 🤣) I also have an eating disorder history so classed as a higher risk. If there's no concerns they won't give you another

You only have a growth scan if you need one, if you have medical reasons (GD) or previous issues with previous pregnancies - Doppler issues, low or high birth weight. You can go and pay for one they are like £60 at Window to the womb who are great if you are London based.

I have extra scans due to being high risk pregnancy which could impact baby’s growth so keeping a closer eye.
