My first baby was a c-section after failed induction so I’m not new to c-section recovery. I was thinking I wanted to try to have this baby vaginally. Today at my 30 week appointment we talked about birth control and I brought up having my tubes tied bc I’m SUPER done being pregnant and having children. The nurse practitioner said that we could do the tube removal during a planned c-section. So now I’m kind of up in the air about how I want to give birth. If I go vaginally I would have to come back to the hospital later on to get my tubes tied but if I do the planned c-section we could just do it all at once and have one recovery.
Recovery with my first baby was fine. HOWEVER my husband can’t take off work this time around with his new job so I’d be alone most of the time with new baby and my toddler. My mom and in-laws would definitely help but obvi a vaginal birth recovery would be easier. But there’s a chance I would have to have another c-section anyway like last time. Idk what to do 😩😩😩

Can they still tie your tubes if you end up in a c section after trial of vaginal labor? Or no because it’s unplanned/not on the surgery schedule

I’m not sure if they’d do it if I end up with c section after trial. I’d have to ask the doctor. My assumption is that they probably wouldn’t be able to bc it wasn’t planned on and they’d have to do consent forms and all that good stuff

Yeah, I’d discuss it with them and see what they say! This is a tough decision - I wouldn’t want to be operated on twice either. Though I’ve heard the tubal ligation on its own isn’t bad at all

I'm in a similar boat as you, but my partner is also fairly likely to get a vasectomy, so that's not my main reason. The familiarity with C-section recovery is tempting, but shorter VBAC recovery is even more appealing to me. I'm meeting with an OB in a couple of weeks to go over their recommendations, but I think I'm ultimately leaving towards going for TOLAC if I go into spontaneous labor before 40 weeks.

You can still go for a vaginal birth and have your partner get his snip snip
