So my husband has been so supportive with my GD but tomorrow is my birthday and honestly because of family situation and my GD I just want to pretend I don’t have a birthday this year. He wants to make me my fav dinner steak Alfredo pasta and get me a cake which I think he’s so extremely sweet but I just don’t know how to tell him I can’t eat any of that except maybe the steak I don’t want to hurt his feelings he’s trying so hard. he knows how I feel about my bday this year and he’s just trying to make me excited about it…

Is the Alfredo pasta cream/ cheese because if so you should be able to get away with it because your pasta is your only carb in the meal? I’ve read lots about pairing carbs with fats/ protein which is exactly what the cream/ cheese and the steak is?
As for the cake, I’m having my baby shower next month and I’m going to have a teeny tiny slice straight after my meal and hoping I can tolerate it 🤞🏻 x

I was told I could have a bit of a day off for a celebration. I had my shower few weeks ago and I had cake. My dietician saw the reading later on and said it was fine as it was a one off. So it's really up to you but I would say go for it

I totally understand. my bday was this month too! but there are def options. maybe he can make the alfredo sauce and use a high protein pasta? or maybe substitute the pasta for broccoli? i know everyone handles foods differently, and i wasn’t able to handle pasta AT ALL, even the high protein stuff. BUT for my bday, i was able to eat a small piece of cake paired w a lot of protein and i didn’t spike. you def have options, maybe he can get a sugar free dessert or something. :-)

What helped me was walking before and after meals.
But also don't worry, relax and enjoy your birthday, one day won't hurt your baby.
You don't have to be miserable during your pregnancy because of GD.
About to check my numbers after dinner we decided to do protein noodles a lot of broccoli and steak and my husband said he’s okay waiting for this weekend to make me a cake just so I don’t over load on carbs thank you all ❤️

Hi new to this. Just got diagnosed a few days ago. Is one day off bad? Or one meal? I have several family birthdays coming up and meals out with parents/in-laws. Worried about food choices and thought maybe I could just eat the "naughty" foods in moderation and suggest a family walk after to help lower any spikes. I mean, I had GD for who knows how long before I was officially diagnosed... Not ideal but I definitely ate chocolate and had blood sugar spikes in the days before my glucose test. Is it the end of the world? Legitimate question. Don't mean to sound flippant, I am genuinely curious.
