My little one turns 1 year next month and I still breastfeed him in the AM before work and PM before bed. I pump at work and he takes two bottles during the day while I’m away.
I’m not ready to stop breastfeeding, he loves it so much and will beat on my chest the minute I walk in the door. I don’t even know if it’s about hunger anymore or just the connection/safe space/comfort. He eats three meals of solids a day.
I’ve been reading that by 1 year he doesn’t really “need” it anymore but I guess my question is, what’s my next play? I know women who breastfeed to 2 years + but what’s that schedule look like? Just feeding him before bedtime? I guess I just don’t really understand what the pattern should be/looks like at this age.
I guess I’m wondering if this is when we partially wean, as in drop bottles during the day when I’m working and just BF morning and night? Would I replace cow or goats milk during the day in a cup with a straw or sippy cup?
It’s all so confusing.

There are still benefits to breastfeeding after 1, including any antibodies he might receive from you. Plus the security and comfort of that connecting time. I breastfed my first through 2.5 years.
It made sense to drop to twice a day around a year, for us. I'm a SAHP, so I did it at nap and bedtime, but AM and PM also totally work! Feel out what feels right for you both.
thank you! I plan to go as long as he still wants to. I’m going to let him lead the way, for now.
Did you have to supplement with cow or goat milk during the day or did you just do solids, water and breast feed 2 times a day?
Also 2.5 years. That’s amazing 💫

I did solids and water. And then we used soy milk (I'm lactose intolerant, and it was just easier) here and there. After one, they don't need the extra milk, necessarily. Nothing wrong with it, though!
I appreciate you, truly. Thank you again 🫶🏻

No problem at all! It's a lot!

The WHO and AAP recommends breastfeeding until 2 years or more. With my first I let her wean herself. After 1 We just did naps and bedtime and nighttime wakings until she self weaned at 20 months. At around 1 year old we introduced milk during the day.

My 14 month old still gets 90% of her nutrition from me. She's EBF and has almost no interest in solids or other milks. Breastmilk is considered complete nutrition for babies 24 months and younger. My middle child weaned herself at 18 months and my oldest was never interested so I gave up at 5 months.
