My lad is starting his sen school in September but has his transition days coming up. He is more verbal and has some understanding of the world. I'm just struggling to know how to explain that he will be going to a new school in September as well as explaining the days he will be going to his old school then new school. Any advice is appreciated

You could try making a social story, if you are allowed to print photos of his new school off and create a short picture story, there's a lot of social stories on the Internet to help you form one of your own. With the days going to his old school/new school.. if there's so many days until he starts his new school, maybe a countdown and have it on a calender as well, you could pop a sticker on as the days countdown. Has he had a new uniform? You could show him that also to help him understand a bit better. Hope this helps and best of luck to your little one starting a new school, hope the transition is smooth for him x

@Tasha thank you so much he responds well to social storys. He will be having a new school jumper andcthe usual new uniform. I like your sticker chart countdown we do have dates and times already and there is a few. All the way till he starts. I'm hope it will too. But as their is alot I think that will help. I'm lucky he does better with change than me lol 😆

You're very welcome! Visual things should really help, as he can see when he'll start his new school. Hopefully it does help! Yeah I'm not good with big change either haha 🤣

School did a goodbye book which was quite nice and all the kids signed it. We actually visited the school as they had building work so didn’t do any transition photos so did them ourselves. I used to do a visual timetable for the holidays anyway with activities ect.

The social story gave me insight on my girl. We got confirmed for SEN school and now gotta get her prepared for it!

how did you do this book? I love this idea!

@Emma there is some social storys on Pinterest I have used before 🙂

So we have told him shown pictures of school and the information they sent us with dates on. Now just hope he copes being at 2 schools in 1 day. And the jumper he will have ( he's very proud of school jumpers )
