So I'm 26+3 and I've offically started leaking last night!
Really surprised me but I'm excited.
However I wanna make sure I'm doing things right! When do I start collecting the colostrum? I read not to do it too early or express much because it can cause early labor.
Is there any collection kit yall reccomened as well?
This is so exciting š„°

I don't beast feel but was told when I was thinking about it to not collect until after baby is born because "it's not milk until then"

thats weird cause I was told the colostrum is really good for the babies š¤·āāļø

I have no clue lol I would ask your Ob

@Kamrynš²š½ Colostrum has all the nutrients your baby needs in the first few days of life that's why they tell you to let your baby drink the colostrum

@Kaylin as for any collection kit, I used a hakka the whole time I breastfed to collect the colostrum/milk

ok ya I never breastfed so I don't know that's just what I was told by someone

@Kaylin although online it says that you want the baby to get colostrum for the first 3-5 days of their life. The flow of colostrum is slow so I wouldn't worry about pumping too much. Maybe use nipple pads so you don't get you're shirts/bra wet. It's slow so the baby and learn how to feed of the breast

Hey! I started leaking fairly early on as well. I was advised to wait until at least 36 weeks to start collecting as it can bring on early labour. I got some tiny 1ml syringes and hand pumped onto a sterile teaspoon then sucked it up with the syringe, labelled and put in the freezer. You can then give the colostrum to baby or use for lots of different things! xx

You can collect it if itās leaking. But donāt express. Just let it drip into a sterile container and freeze it in a deep freezer. Itāll last 12 months in a deep freezer.

Yes you are supposed to wait to express until you are full term because it can cause labor but you can collect whatās leaking also you only create colostrum for the first few days so baby gets it either way
