UTI with no symptom

With my first pregnancy I apparently had a uti that I didn’t know about because of no symptoms and it took them over a week to even tell me about it and I have no idea how long it had been there before that but baby was absolutely fine. I think the main concern is if the infection was the spread to say like a kidney infection etc or sepsis but if you’re feeling well I wouldn’t worry about that. I assume you had a urine test at your last midwife appointment which would have been fine so I’d imagine you haven’t had it for too long. As long as you’ve got antibiotics now I’d try not to worry

Was the test related to your midwife appointment? With my first pregnancy, the midwife tested my wee and called me back over a month later to tell me they detected an infection (the NHS during Covid was a joke). I’m quite prone to UTIs and I had my midwife appointment quite early so it was before I made the effort to start drinking lots of water. I was fuming at this phone call and said to her I’m not taking antibiotics until I’ve had another test. I went to the doctors, collected a wee sample and my wee came back clear. My extra intake of water had cleared it. I was so upset though as that was a month I didn’t know I had an infection. It may be best to have the antibiotics. I didn’t want them so I’m glad it cleared up before I realised. My boy was absolutely fine x

I’m in the same position. I had a test with midwife on Monday and they said they need to send my sample off as it looks like I have an infection. They asked me about symptoms but I didn’t have any either. I’ve got to wait till Monday for results. I said well can’t you put it through as urgent as a week is a long time and I might have had it awhile. They said they need to give time for the bacteria to grow to see if it is. So now I’m left worried until Monday. So annoying!

Hi! This happened to me at my first midwife appointment - first UTI I’ve had in my life! I also had no symptoms and was none the wiser. I was so panicked and worried but the midwife told me it was so common and UTIs can’t directly affect baby. 7 weeks later and I have another one with no symptoms (had been doing stick tests at home). I think it’s natural to worry and feel panicked by it but I’ve also seen lots of other women on this app go through the same thing. As long as you’re ok, baby should be ok too (aka, not developed into sepsis or severe kidney infection!) xx

Thanks Maria, this was in the GP appointment, they only did the test using dip and prescribed antibiotics before sending the sample to the lab… which is super strange! I’ve asked them to send it out and update me, so fingers crossed…
