Hi all
I had my HV assessment yesterday and she said my LG shouldn’t be having a bottle during the night anymore? Anyone else still giving their babies a bottle during the night??
She said to give baby supper before bed and then a bottle. If she wakes during the night to give her some water, well I tried that last night and she wasn’t impressed with the water at all😭😂

My son had to be weaned off it with water but he was chunky and loved milk and food lol he'd have dinner but still wake once. Took maybe a month of dummies and water only for him to stop. He had his milk before bed with his story too. My daughter has gradually stopped the bottle herself though. Really varies with every kid

thank you! That makes me feel better, I know it’s only been one night but i just wasn’t sure if i was doing something wrong

I was told this too but my boy likes water 😂so he still drinks it likes it milk haha

my girl loves water but not in the middle of the night 😂

Mine still has one or two bottles overnight! Working on it. Kinda.

Ignore your HV... I'm amazed that this is their advice tbh. Keep giving milk x

I definitely take everything they say with a pinch of salt! I’m trying the supper to see if it does fill her up and stops her waking during the night, although I really don’t mind her waking up, Ive learnt to love that time with her x

I got told yesterday to give 4 bottles with 4 meals then only water during the night...she's only 7 months and 12 days. Everything I've read online says 5-6 bottles 🤪my husband said I'll send myself insane with all the conflicting advice so just do what we've been doing 🤷♀️....hate those days when u feel like u don't know what ur doing after being confused by H.V x

Our dietitian told us the same …

yeah everything you read/get told is so conflicting! It drives me insane. It was the way the HV looked at me when I said she has a bottle during the night🤣 x

Same here. My baby is big but I made her measure her as well cuz she's long..73cm in fact lol so turns out she is in proportion! She's been teething and wanting more milk in the night. Might be comfort but she did say that's normal but only give her water 🙈so I was bamboozled to say the least. My husband said don't mention milk, water or oz's again tonight! Lol x

Mine still often has a bottle during the night, we'll keep with it as long as she needs it- just will switch to cows milk after 1. HVs don't always have the most up to date information when it comes to feeding. My LO was still having 8 or 9 bottles a day when she was 7-8 months because she rarely finished them - now at 10 months she still has 5 in 24hrs! And that's with three square meals! Follow your baby's lead, they are very good at knowing what they need x

My son would flip if I did this 😂 he likes to sleep on a full belly

Mine is bf and hv said the same I think if I give her a cup or bottle with water instead of the boob we’d know about it 🤣

God there full of shit lol

I really dont believe what HVs say. I am a pediatric nurse (not UK but across 3 countries) and the information they passed around is so outdated and ludicrous!

Thanks everyone, I’m glad we are all on the same page😂 the way she looked at me when I said she still has a night feed made me feel like I was doing something wrong! If she wants one she will have one, I love getting up with her during the night(weirdly enough😂)

@Emily some health visitors are just weirdly judgy and random stuff lol

Yeah, same here. But she doesn't need still sometimes. I'm not about to starve her just because of "standards". Most night she sleeps through but sometimes she needs the breast, and I give her. Because it is a need.

My HV actually said it wasnt a problem 😂 i went in there ready to argue and she actually said its fine just to try reduce it when hes 1 x

haha I’m not sure whether I’m ready to go and argue or outright lie 😂

I give mine a bottle if he wakes really early (like 3am) as it gets him back to bed HV said to gov whim water instead but it didn’t work - very worried about him turning 1 and not having milk any more

I feel the same! I’m sure it’ll be fine, try and drop down to two a day before he’s one. I’m going to try next week to do one in the morning and one at night and see how we get on! If she wants more though I’m not going to deprive her of it. She woke up 5am this morning and I gave her water, it was dark but I could just tell the look on her face wasn’t impressed🤣 I made her a bottle, she went straight back to sleep. I know what she wants, if she’s just woke up because she wants me then she will fall back to sleep the second I pick her up, but if she doesn’t fall asleep then I know she wants milk. I’m following her lead on this and not listening to what they say. We know our babies best!! X

Tell the HV to mind her own business 🤣 my lo still has a bottle in the night and my eldest breastfed during the night till he was 18 months maybe longer x

honestly everyone on here said the samr as the post so i was so ready for an argument and she was honestly so nice! She said if he clesrly needs it, then continue but once hes 1 and on 3 meals eith snacks and 3 bottles, he shouldnt really need it for nutrition, more just comfort which if i dont want to be waking in the night then we can cut it out 😂 its clear when mine doesnt want a bottle bwcause he will point blank refuse so he clearly wants it!

My little one still has one bottle most nights at around 3 am, and she will push the bottle away when she doesn't want any more. If your baby is waking up hungry, feed them, I'm not sure why it should be an issue x
