How to go out for the day with a formula fed baby!

Why will making bottles on the go not always be possible?

@N 💞 if I'm at a horse show with no hot water. Could take a flask but worried it wouldn't stay hot enough. If its not possible she will have to stay at home but would be nice to be able to take her.

Fill bottles with the right amount of water. Then when needed, add then powder and shake. They have dispensers you can pre-portion so you don’t have to bring whole tin. There are also portable water heaters if your baby needs warm formula.

there are flasks that keep the water hot for 12 hours, I’ve always used a chilly’s flask. We’ve had loads of days out using that and not had any issues.

in the uk formula needs to be mixed with water above 70 degrees to kill bacteria so your method wouldn’t work unfortunately.

I will have a look into them, didn't know if there was a trick I was missing.

I took out 2 flasks - 1 for hot and 1 with cooled boiled.

I also put loads milk powder in a smaller tub with the spoon as never knew how much baby wanted always wanted so was easier .

Had plenty of lovely days out ❤️

Lots of parks have food vans or cafes to get hot water from same as shopping centres so never worried 😉

Little ready made milk cartons? Take those and sterile bottles, works a treat! But my little girl has always been happy to not have really warm milk

Yes I'm happy if I know where we are going has a cafe etc. But sometimes it's just a field 😅

@Amy Draper I have a few of the ready made ones, at the moment she doesn't like milk if it's not warm but hoping as she gets abit older that will change, as they will be a game changer.x

I give my baby hot water too but when I’m out he’ll take cold or room temperature water

@Becky you can check out the nuby cooler things too but I didn't bother with gimiky things as heard they were a faf - passed my flasks onto a friend who does the same now and said its actually no bother as just the same as at home (mimic prep if have one 😉)

As baby would only have less than 2ozs hot in a bottle the flask should last all day 😉

@Jemma yes thats true we do have a prep so could do them the same with the pre boiled water. The prep was a game changer so just wanted to make sure there wasn't something on the market I wasn't aware of that would make days easier.x

I find this to be the BEST way. If I have to make 3 ounces of milk I use 1 and a half of boiled water (I use a flask) and put powder in. Give it a shake then use the nuby cooler to cool the other 1 and half water and mix it in the bottle. Shake and give to baby. @Melissa I have got some of these but at the moment she won't drink them if they are room temp/cold. Buts she's only 3 weeks so by time summer gets here she might be happy with them.x

@Kajal sorry if this is a dumb question...I have just had a look at the rapid cool, if I was to put boiling water in at home with the formula would it then stay at ready to drink temperature? And for how long? Or am I missing how it should be used?

it won’t keep it insulated at a warm temperature no. Also with the nuby if you add formula to it then you can only use it once and it will need to be sterilised. Most people just use it for boiling water and do the hot shot method. When out I use my flask for a hot shot and then measure cool boiled water from another bottle as I find the nuby makes the bottles still too hot when doing the hot shot method. u can put the formula in it but you will have to sterilise it after every use. If you just use water it doesn’t need to be sterilised after every use. It literally takes 1 minutes to cool from boiling water to drinking. On the lid it’s a traffic light colour code. So when it’s green it’s perfect to drink xx

@Kajal ah ok ideal so don't have to wait to cool the bottle! Just need to find an easy way to get hot water! Wonder if they do battery kettles? Or in car kettles?

My son didn’t mind room temp, but I would bring a warm thermos with water, and the powder in those divided containers for formula. Business idea, portable bottle warmers cause🥴🥴

@Pamela Noelle yes would be a good business idea, I thought with all these gadgets there would be something out there that would be 100% self sufficient but seems its only possible with flasks etc. I have just found a car kettle so that's one step on right direction 🤣

I start out with room temp water from the get go. Take formula divider and three bottles of preboiled water then just use when they need feeding. If you need it warming ask for a cup of boiling water say at Starbucks and just leave the bottle in until it warms through a bit. What about using premade formula for days out too? X

I used to just bring bottled water with me and portion out how much formula I needed for a bottle in different baggies I also sometimes just put water in the bottle if I had the cap for it and would then just dump a baggie of formula into the bottle and shake! I became a pro at standing in place doing it without a place to set it down unfortunately if you’ll be gone for longer then two hours you can’t pre ale bottles

We have these to portion out to go formula. They've been great and then we use a steel water bottle and take boiled hot water with us and bottles of water for mixing. That's worked well for us. If you need to premix having a small cooler bag with ice packs

Can you use the pre made milk when out ?

When we go out we use ready to feed formulas and if we do use powder, we will bring water in the bottle and pre-portion powder so we just dump it in. We also have a portable bottle warmer. But we also dont go out for really long periods of time.

We make sure to feed her before we leave the house and only stay out long enough for 1 more feed if need be. Haven't tried overnights yet. My LO's 4 months today

I carry a flask with kettle water and then I carry my brita filter water bottle and do it that way. I also carry ready to drink formula bottles too incase I forget either of these. And keep 2 bottles in my bag at all times.

We just used the ready made stuff. Was so much easier for us when out and about. Xx

My SIL kept hot water in a thermos and would just use that water to mix with the formula while they were out!

Two flasks. One with hot water and one with cooled boiled water. Otherwise just use the ready made formula in bottles.

Hey lovely, you can get instant milk which stays at room temperature for ages. That way you can take a carton with you and make up as you need. SMA, Aptamil and Kendamilk all do instant cartons!

My first daughter was formula fed. If your going out for a couple hours you can prep the bottle right before you leave and have it in something to keep warm. There was these thermal holders Tommy tippee sent me. The formula is ok for 2 hours as long as the bottle hasn't been touched.

If your going out for the day, you can buy the bottles of premade formula which doesn't needing warming up they can just have it at the temperature, that's what I used to do for full days out.

Now you can get the nuby rapid cool bottles as my friend had them and they didn't exist when my daughter was born. They bring it to the temperature quite quickly from boiling water, so as long as your somewhere with access to boiled water. I have bought one for my second. I'm not sure you can use it right away though, so might want 2 of them xx

We got the missta which keep water at right temp for 12hrs. We pack formula is those little dispenser and a few bottles. I always pack more bottles in case... But otherwise preboiled water and portable warmer like Minbie or jiffy to warm water then pour in formula.
