Today, my sister-in-law (and best friend) visited with my niece from out of town and brought an SUV full of baby clothes and other items for me. I’m so incredibly grateful for her to drive 5 hours from out of state with her three and a half year old in tow to bring me things that she knows I’d want.
When going through the clothes, several of the onesies had flamingos on them. Flamingos were a favorite thing of my grandmother. My grandmother and I were incredibly close (I was her first grandchild), and she passed away a year and a half ago.
After seeing the first flamingo print, I immediately started crying, saying how sad I am that my grandmother won’t know my baby. I didn’t realize how strongly I was going to react to her memory, but I realize now that I’ve been SO incredibly emotional lately. How are you mamas dealing with these raging hormones?

Aww what a touching story! Thanks for sharing. I tear up way easier than normal. At a sad movie or even a commercial. Yesterday we had our anatomy scan and I teared up multiple times and just felt so grateful for a healthy baby.

Maybe this would make things worse during those emotional moments but what about making a scrap book of sorts of things that you used to do with your grandmother and memories you have of her to share with your baby when your baby gets old enough to understand?

So sweet

that is a great idea!

awesome! Maybe you could include things y’all used to do together, words/phrases your grandmother was known for, places she would take you, just any special memory. Your memory will be much more fresh now than it will be after baby.

what a beautiful idea. I’m already experiencing Mom Brain, so I should start this project ASAP

same girl same. Baby brain I call it. 😂

This is one area that didn’t really get better for me after my son was born but I know what you mean now that I’m pregnant again. It’s a rational thing to be upset about so I find it’s best to ride the emotion. I take my son places that remind me of my mom even if it makes me cry, and look forward to doing that with this baby as well.

@Katelynn I love that. It's good for kids to see their patents have emotions. It helps normalize that its okay for them to be sad about things, too.
I think anytime we have to think about the people who won't get to be a part of this babies life, it is sad. Both of my mom's parents passed before I was born, and to this day, she gets a little sad about them not knowing me and my sister.
