My boy will be 4 months old next week. Any tips on getting him to nap during the day?
He used to be such a good sleeper and now he is so hard to get to sleep for a nap and only naps for 30-40 mins at a time.
Any tips are well appreciated!!! 😊

Stretch the wake windows a bit. Not too much, but a bit

Each bubba is different but I’ve recently found the opposite for the wake window, and my bub is 4 months old too. I always thought 3-4 month olds had wake windows of 90-120 mins so often was getting her down closer to the 2 hour mark, but now I try by the 90 min mark (before all the crying sets in) and she’s been going down for naps a lot quicker and sleeping longer in the day, the afternoon/evening nap is usually still that cat nap one sleep cycle though.

We had the same when our bub was 4 months old - we actually sought help and they told us to persevere with resettling bub when he woke from naps if it had been under an hour. They suggested we give it a time limit for resettling, e.g., 20 mins before you call it so we didn’t get frustrated by the process. If they won’t go back down then put them in the pram and go for a walk for the remainder of the time to make up the hour as that was still ‘rest’ time. So 30 min nap, 20 mins unsuccessful resettle, 10 min walk outside. It took us a week and suddenly he would resettle easier for naps, then overnight he just stopped needing to be resettled for naps and they stretched to 1-1.5 hour averages.

thank you that’s really helpful. I will give it a go.

To be honest, it’s probably the big leap he’s going to be going through. My baby boys naps and nighttime sleep went to shit at about 14 weeks and it’s only just getting ok (he’s 22 weeks Monday)
30 to 40 min naps are fine if baby isn’t fussy or upset with being so tired. If he is then it may be worth a longer nap but with my boy I had to do it contact and lay with him. Then he’ll sleep for anywhere between 1.5 to 3 hours

Second @Morgan . This worked for us. That and sometimes we just needed to buckle down with a good contact nap. Set up a good area around your comfortable seat with water, snacks, burp cloths, phone, books, whatever gets you through it. 😄

Sounds normal to me. My daughter would nap 30 mins to the dot!! It will change soon
