Possible to come home same day after c section? (UK)

Atleast one night stay in the UK as you will likely still be numb and have a catheter in until the next day. You will be glad of it and of the help from the midwives xx

No. Surgery needs observation for infection and complications. You need to pass tests like being able to wee, making sure your wound is sealed correctly, checking your pp bleeding.

Also your theatre drugs last almost 12 hours so you won’t be standing or walking until after that’s worn off and the catheter is out.

The time does fly by fast though and you’ll be so busy with both yours and baby’s checks, getting feeding help, getting showered and walking again, finally eating and sleeping x

Sorry I should of said I’ve had an emergency section before so I know what it entails, it was fine and I recovered really well but I was looked after terribly on the ward after. Would of been better off at home with my partner caring for me but of course understand I need to stay in case any thing happens. Hope my aftercare is better this time ☹️

That's a very good question, as I know in my hospital we've been told we will be dispatched after 24h and I really don't feel safe to do so especially after a C-section.

Ive never known anyone able to go home same day as it carries so many risks, and they won’t let you home until you’ve passed urine are mobile ect and that doesn’t normally tend to happen until the next day. I’ve had an emergency and elective both times afterwards I’ve not been able to walk until the next day.

I had a C-section on Tuesday
Had her at 9:30am, was walking by 3pm and had my catheter out then but I couldn’t pass urine until 7pm.
I was monitored constantly and so was baby,
Nothing was wrong with either of us but we wasn’t allowed home until 2pm on Wednesday!

I went home the day after mine and I honestly do not recommend it I think an extra day would of helped alot

I was in for 24hrs from birth. I had my little man at 9.04pm and was ready to leave by midday as myself and baby were doing really well, I was up and about, had showered and passed urine. The midwife said she was happy for me to leave but that it would have to be at 9.04pm so I stayed till that time then they came round and discharged me as she did say if that's too late I could stay an extra night and be discharged in the morning but we were happy to go then. I'm now 6weeks pp and luckily the rest of my recovery continued quite smoothly so was glad I was allowed home after the 24 hrs. Hope it all goes well for you ❤️X

Had emergency section at 5.37am Christmas day but didn't go home til 12pm the boxing day. X

At my hospital it was a minimum of 12 hours before they would take the catheter out so even though I was the first c-section of the day (baby arrived at 9:30am) The catheter didn’t come out until 10pm and then I had to pee a certain amount before I could go anywhere and by then it was the middle of the night so I couldn’t leave anyway. I left the following morning.

My after care was good so hopefully yours will be better this time 🤞🏼

I can relate, when the care is poor you definitely feel like you’re better off at home where your partner can help you with the baby atleast.
