FTM here. I feel my LG is at the stage where boundaries need to be set however she doesn’t listen to me full stop. I shout no, clap, make loud noises but she just ignores me or laughs at me. I only tell her no when she’s doing something that could potentially hurt her etc. Does anyone have advice? I know it’s still early days but I want her to listen to me

My little boy does this when I say no to him, but they don’t understand at this age, they just think it’s a game. I just say ‘no thank you’ and move him away from whatever he’s doing and give him a distraction x

I think they do stuff that gets a big reaction and they can’t always tell if it’s a positive or negative one. Maybe try giving firm but more monotone reaction when saying no and a really over the top excited reaction when praising etc! But I also did recently read that they do things a few times when you say no to confirm the behaviour that you’re saying no too, as it takes time for them to connect your no to the behaviour they were doing! X

Hey lovely, I’m just finishing reading the gentle discipline book by Sarah ockwell smith and found it really helpful to understand what is age appropriate behaviour and tips to how to address these sorts of things (still early days of practicing of course but my sister followed advice (3 and 6 yr old) and found it really helpful

Just as a little extra to the above comments, I always say my daughters name first so she turns and looks at me before giving a firm no and shake my head a bit.
If it’s something that needs to stop straight away I say no as moving her away and distracting her.

Yea he'll stop and look. Have a big smile in his face and proceed what he was doing 😅

Genuinely think they’re a little young for boundaries, their little minds just don’t work like that yet! Personally we say no (more as practice for us!) but then swiftly remove him from whatever is the issue and distract him with something else

My little boy doesn’t listen to anything 😂
