Don't know if anyone else has been in the same boat as me. My husband is self employed so trying to have time off for appointments while I've been pregnant has been a bit of a battle. Thankfully I'm extremely close to my mum she's like my best friend, so she has come to some scans. My husband wanted to come to my 12 week scan back in December and was told from his work he would lose half a day's pay to come, so he made the difficult decision to not come and I took my mum instead. He spoke to them about the 20 week scan and wanting to come to find out the gender and they did pay him for that one as he was only out of work for about 2 hours to come to the scan. Since then it's been either me going to midwife apps on my own, or my mum coming to scans (I'm considered higher risk so have more scans at 30 weeks onwards) thankfully I'm very understanding and know we cannot afford to lose out on money when I'll be going on maternity in about 8 weeks time, but it's been quite hard seeing peoples partners attend everything when mine can't. I don't know if anyone else has been in the same boat.

Aww it’s so hard as you just want him to be there experiencing all this fun stuff with you of course. He’s clearly trying his best to get that time but it’s is the issue with self employment. I think everyone thinks you’d be able to to be master of your own time and destiny but sometimes you can find yourself at the mercy of being stuck at work as it is literally the difference of being paid and not taking any money home.
I’m the opposite as it’s me who’s the self employed one and when I’ve booked my scan and appointments I’ve had some funny looks when I’ve said sorry I can’t make that appointment. My midwife looked at me as if I wasn’t taking my babies health seriously. But it’s just not as black and white sometimes. Obviously I’ve managed to juggle appointments but I got given a weeks notice for my 12 week scan and unfortunately that simply wasn’t enough time for me to organise cover. I lost £200 just by going to that scan which put such a downer on the whole day. Still nice to see 👶
yeah I completely get it and he works hard to keep money coming in. I know he's worrying when I'm on maternity as I'm on a decent wage as a teacher and MLT, and then he will be the main earner once im on maternity. He's really supportive at home, it's just a shame he's missed out on some key things xx

My husband is the same . He has his own business and everyone there depend on him, so his always busy.
It was hard for me at the beginning to accept that he won’t be with me but then I tried to be more understandable
But it still gets me sometimes when I see everyone there with their husbands and I’m not specially that I’m alone here in the US . But when I get back and he asks how the appointment went I feel better

Will they allow recording at the appointment?
