I’m not certain if this is normal but my baby is 4 days old, my actual milk is coming in so I just pumped for the first time, my fiancé really wants to feed him but I’ve been so scared of artificial nipples. We don’t have binkies because of this. Will it affect his ability to breast feed?

I felt the same way and I’ve still never bottle fed 4 months in but I know from other mothers that bottle fed early on and it didn’t affect breastfeeding. However I did read that most midwives recommend not introducing a bottle until baby is 8-10 weeks old to avoid nipple confusion as it takes a different technique to suck breast compared to bottle and this can confuse the baby. You can explain that to your fiancé?

Every baby is different.
My LG was bottle fed first aprox 6 weeks as I had issues with milk and her latching.
Since then I have been EBF (10 months old now).

My baby did both for first two weeks, then I exclusively breastfed for about two months, but my husband gave him a bottle about once a week. We wanted to make sure he could take both for when I needed to go back to work.
Agree that babies are very particular about bottle nipples. Mine would only take a certain shape (Lansinoh worked best for us).

Id use lanisoh teats now looking back and have switched to them as theyre the only ones that babies latch and suckling technique is exactly like breastfeeding as i do face some nipple confusion (more frustration that her latch isnt the same as on bottles) but if you pace feed and use teats that mimic their natural suckling motion then you shouldnt have issues, i found mam nuk and tommee tippee awful bottles for that but the lanisoh teats fit on mam bottles x

Mine had gone from boob to bottle since about a week old no trouble 😊 Every baby is different but as he’s so young and has a great suck on him it’s been no issue. Hes only had formula as back up on a few occasions - he’s 99% BF/expressed milk. He’s had 4 different types of teat (one hospital bottle, tommee tippee, mam and the teats that come with the pre-made formula starter pack) and takes them all no issues. He’s 75% on boob and has no trouble there apart from being a bit fussy at times but if he’s hungry he’s on! He’s 4 weeks now and still happy hopping from whatever is offered. Boy just wants milk! 🤣

I was worried too, but early on I had to do both because he wasn't latching on properly until about 3-4 weeks. Hes 3 months old now and we have no issues at all. He actually prefers the boob now more than the bottle — but again every baby is different and every mom is different. Do what is comfortable for you and your little one 🩵

I felt the same way! I recommend if you do decide to use a bottle use the mam 4oz bottles they come with a size 0 nipple which is shipped similar to an actual breast nip
