Hello ladies,
I'm trying to sleep train my little man, but being a first-time mommy, I have a few questions. First, a little background, my son was born at 33+3, and at 3 months, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. Now, I know that premature babies hit their developmental milestones later, but does that also include making sleep training more complicated? Right now, he is going the sleep regression and he is also teething. He will take little cat naps throughout the day ranging anywhere between 15minutes up to an hour. At night he usually wakes up once to eat but lately he been waking up 2-3 times. He has to his Seizure medicine at 8pm every night (if it's not consistent it will cause him to have a seizure). But the problem is getting him to stay up till 8pm. He starts fussing ag like 6:30-7pm so we will start bedtime routine and the last thing we will do is feed him because I know that if we were to feed him first he would just fall right to sleep. And he wakes ready up ready for the day at like 6:30am. I literally don't know what to do I'm at a loss, any kind of help/ advice would be kindly accepted.

How old? Sleep training isn't recommended until 6 months. Infantsleepscientist and heysleepybaby have great sleep recommendations. Could his medication be slowly moved up during the day? I totally understand your struggle, my son was also a NICU baby and you needed to get medication before he slept but he had a very inconsistent bedtime until he was probably a year old 🙃 It wasn't as extreme of a situation as seizure medication, but he would have very difficult tummy troubles the next day without the medicine

@Faye he will be 5 months on the 28th

As a NICU doula, I'd consult your son's team and explain you're having difficulty getting him his medication as he's fall asleep by then and will not stay up regardless of any method to keep him up. They'd have better medical advice since this is a potentially a life threatening issue. We ultimately chose not to sleep train and his friends that did are on the same schedule as him 😅
