Sleep training, without the stress!

Hey, I got so desperate that we hired a sleep consultant to sort out our baby’s sleep. She didn’t treat my baby as an individual, gave me a plan that left her to cry (even though she said that wasn’t part of her method) and was actually useless! After 4 weeks, her sleep hadn’t improved, it actually got worse!

Still desperate, we decided to go with a different consultant and she’s been amazing. She’s just worked on routine and little changes and no crying! My baby is just taking 2 minutes to fall asleep and she has started to sleep through the night. She’s also helped me to transition my baby to 2 naps! Also, she didn’t cost the earth like other consultants.

can I know how your LO sleeps was during the night before you decided to go to a consultant please?

she was waking up every hour or so, we were up multiple times a night! When I put her down in her cot, she would instantly wake up!

thank you!! I'm going through the exact same thing with my little one, it's been a while now 😩.

it’s awful isn’t it! We put up with it for about a month, went with the first consultant but after 3 weeks there were no changes- in fact, it got worse. But just after a few days with the consultant were with now, there were improvements :) She has different methods but will advise what she thinks is best for your baby, I nearly went for the crying method because I was so tired and desperate but she told me to hold on and I’m so glad I did!

it is exhausting! I'm going through this for a month and a half now, I need it to stop!! I'm glad it works for you because it is really awful waking up every hour at night when you just want to sleep. Thanks for sharing the link, I will look into it.

bless you, it’s awful isn’t it :( she does do a free discovery call as well, she is lovely. My support ends next week and not sure I’m ready to be without her, even though things are better 😂

Can I ask what sort of methods she used if you don’t mind sharing? My LO is still up every hour and I wonder whether her routine might need some changes but always sceptical that sleep coaches push sleep training / limiting responsiveness to LO during sleep which is definitely not for us xx

Avatar

she offers all methods from the most gentle to ones that would involve crying. She purely focused on her routine and nap timings first, it took a couple of days to get the timings right for her, then we looked at getting her into her cot soon after she’s fallen asleep. It used to take me 20 minutes after she had fallen asleep to get her down and even then she would wake up straight away. Now, she’s only taking 2 minutes after she’s fallen asleep to put her in her cot! :)

thanks so much, glad things have improved for you ❤️

How were you getting her to sleep if you don't mind me asking

Avatar

that’s fine :) we were holding her to sleep! Still are, but only for 2 minutes now, but soon we will put her in her cot when she’s awake :) to be honest, I don’t mind holding her to sleep, my main issue was her not staying asleep!

Avatar

@Laura see mine needs a lot of rocking ... I'm not sure any sleep training would work? She won't be put down during the day and wakes a lot at night too 🙈 x

Avatar

it might be worth doing the discovery call with her? See if she could help! My baby is a massive contact napper, always slept on me. In the day, she still contact naps, which I wanted (because I wanted to do it the most gentle way, and if her day sleep is good, it means her night sleep will be better) :) when we’ve cracked the night, I will start doing her first nap of the day in her cot! X

@Natallie @Rachel @Marisa We went with Katie from Snoozie wonderland. It was a very disappointing experience, maybe others had better ones but it really wasn't worth the money - generic advice really - that was our experience unfortunately

AITA

In the uk there is an outbreak of meningitis, in a specific area mainly. My BD has family from that area and decided to go and meet up with them, I said if he does then he cannot have contact with the kids for 7-10 days after incase he picks anything up. Am I being over dramatic? I reallyyy don’t want my young kids getting anything serious

Baby clothes

Just out of curiosity, why do parents love zipper onesies?

Don’t get me wrong, I tried zipper ones it’s easy to zip in and out when putting it on the first time and taking it out, but I find it difficult when changing diapers especially when baby is asleep.

I prefer those kimono style buttons where it’s easy to button or too down button with crotch snaps.

Is everyone thinking the same or different? Lol

This might rattle some people

Ok, this might get a bit long, and a bit bumpy, so get comfy and buckle up.

So about a week or 2 ago, there was a post on here regarding sleepovers. Not letting their child go to them as you can't trust who'll be at the house etc.

Now, given recent incidents in nurseries and schools, plus my own experience back in the 90s, I am more concerned about sending my child to nursery and later school than I am to a friend's house for a sleep over.

The other day a man was jailed for abusing children at the nursery he worked at. A woman has been arrested for sleeping with an underage boy and then getting pregnant by a different underage boy while on bail for the first offence.

Young girls and boys get sexually harassed and bullied when at school, not all of them. But more than you think. And not just by other kids, but by adults who we as parents are trusting to look after our kids.

A sleepover, is a more controlled environment, with only a handful of people coming into contact with your child. A school, a club etc there can be 100s of people coming into contact with your child.

I was targeted at 7 years old by the owner of a prominent private school. Thankfully, I wasn't SA'd. In year 5 of primary school, I started to develop early, I was harassed by the boys and teachers made remarks about how my uniform didn't fit right, always "adjusting it" around my chest and legs.

Years 7-9 of secondary school were hell. But it was all under the guise of "we're just messing around". A teacher twanging my exposed bra strap (none uniform day) is not "messing around".

Boys pinning me down trying to rip open my shirt to see my breasts.

I fear for my daughter. I hope she takes after my father's family, flat chested.

We need to educate all our children, what is acceptable behaviour. And to come to us, as their parents should ANYTHING happen.

At this point I’m not enjoying motherhood

My 22 month old is horrendous at the moment🫣 biting, hitting, pushing, pulling and shoving not only adults but children he also wants what other children have and will just snatch it away from them.

We repeat ‘nice hands’ ‘be gentle’ ‘let’s share’ etc

But how do I make him understand what he’s doing isn’t very nice? At the end of the day I feel like I’ve just been saying his name all day and nothing else.

What can I do?

Dummy

My baby has had a dummy since about 2 weeks old (now 5 months) and over the course of the last month we weaned her off it during the day only for naps and night (which was fine) and then 5 days took it completely away during the day.

The first day no dummy was fine, the second bit rougher. But now it feels impossible she just moans and cries all the time it takes ages for her to go down to sleep (she’s always been an amazing sleeper)

I thought it was meant to get better as time went on not worse. I’m at my wits end I dunno what to do.

Currently typing this as she screams uncontrollably in the car and I cry with her cos I can’t do anything.
