Sleep/feeding

My fiancés grandma keeps telling me my (1 month old) daughter should be in her own room and sleeping through the night by now. She thinks my daughter should be in her own room because she will wake up if me and my fiancé are talking (she’s a heavy sleeper she doesn’t wake up to us dropping things on the hardwood floors) I did end up moving her into her room lastnight because I got sick of listening to her say she should be in her own room I didn’t want to transfer her into her own room until we finished setting it up meaning fully clean it out and make it her own and I didn’t want to move her because I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to hear her since I don’t have a baby monitor yet (getting one on Friday) should my daughter be sleeping through the night? I don’t think she should be but that’s what she told me

Your baby should be with you as long as it makes you comfortable. My son is almost 8 months and I have no desire to move him. As for sleeping through the night. It would be nice but some babies don't sleep through the night until they are 3. Others sleep through at 2 weeks. I would just nod my head and ignore the "advice".
My grandmother told me to put cereal in his bottle so he would sleep because that's what she did with my dad...
In 1947.... no thank you!

I was personally told by my doctor that a baby sleeping in the same room with you will lower the chances of SIDS. My baby wasn’t sleeping through the night at one month and still isn’t and he’s 6 months

It's completely up to you when you move your baby. Some people keep their babies in the room till they are a year old or even older. All of my baby things are in my room and we will be sharing until I feel more comfortable tho I am a single mom I know some couples do it as well. My sisters kept their kids in the same room until they were almost 2 as they wouldn't sleep through the night and would try to come find them anyway. The oldest sister has twins and there 3 years old now and they are still not sleeping through the night and they come to find them in the middle of the night so they sleep in separate beds but in the same room

At one month old my baby was sleeping 2 to 3 hours max at a stretch and then feeding. She had longer sleep windows at night -6 to 7 hours, sometimes 8 hours from around the 7 months stage when she started dropping a night feed. Moving a baby to another room without a baby monitor is dangerous as you may not hear her. There will always be well meaning people with a lot of advice. But it's your baby and you decide.

Sounds like very outdated information😂 Keep your baby in your room if you're more comfortable with that. And if you are moving the baby to a different room, for sure get a baby monitor! I've honestly been keeping my daughter in my room and it helps me put my mind at ease knowing she's here with me in case of anything.

Also, my daughter is 3 months and she just recently started sleeping through the night (10am-7am roughly). I know that many many babies don't do this until later. Every baby is different. Do not feel pressured...it's your baby, not theirs!

My baby is 4 months and she wakes up at least once during the night. I normally change her diaper and feed her and she’ll go back to sleep for about 3 or 4 more hours before getting up for the day. Her crib is next to my side of the bed.

My 💙 is with us until 6 months and hes been asleep since 9pm and just woke up now all hyper no way is he in his own room at 2 months he is where i can keep an eye on him, you move her when your heart feels its right never listen to the in laws you birthed her you know whats right for her If she doesn't like it there's the door. She's not the parent you are keep having her in your room where your heart is calm otherwise your going to suffer. Your doing an amazing job mumma don't settle less for family members who think they know best x

In the uk you are told to keep baby in your room until they’re atleast 6 months old as it reduces the risk of SIDS. My little boy is still in mine and my partners room and he’s 7 months old. Move her when you are ready don’t listen to other peoples opinions you are her mum🩵

Avatar

Definitely not in her own room yet! We are doing it at 5.5 months as we feel comfortable doing so but the recommendation is 6 months in your room. There is tonnes of evidence for this reducing SIDS. Also a 1 month old should be waking for feeds over night still their stomachs aren't big enough to get enough food to keep them full through the night. Even all the sleep consultants online don't expect them to sleep through the night st this age. I would just ignore.

Baby need to be close to mom day and night. Tell your MMIL to educate herself and let you take your decisions with your baby.

^ yess and tell her not to over step boundaries

NHS in the UK say to keep baby in your room until at least 6 months. So sorry you're going through this, must be so difficult to have a partner who isn't supportive. Remember your boundaries are completely valid! ❤️

Avatar

would love to tell her that but then I get the talk about how she’s had 13 pregnancies and how only (I think) 3 survived abuse that’s what happened last time I told her to educate herself

Avatar

Your baby needs to be in the room with you for 6 months to reduce the risk of SIDS. An no she shouldn’t be sleeping through the night yet either. Don’t listen to your grandma and do what’s right for your baby x

Avatar

Just tell her she’s in her own room if you need to, she doesn’t need to know otherwise if she’s making a fuss but it’s not safe at this age

It's very unlikely that she will sleep through the night, sometimes you'll get lucky. My first didn't sleep through until 11 months, he wanted to eat every 2 hours. He slept through for a total of like 8 months and now we wake once a night again at 2yo.

My current baby is sleeping through the night all on his own 🤷🏼‍♀️ pure luck.

It's very typical for kids to not really sleep through consistently until like 4-5 years old- this is normal! You can help with different methods, some like sleep training so if they wake and aren't hungry they can just soothe themselves but this isn't a requirement. Also I like to keep them in a bassinet in our room for a few months (4+) as long as everyone sleeps well. My oldest was moved at 4m because he no longer was sleeping well with us moving around

her having 13 pregnancies about a century ago doesn't mean she knows how pregnancy are going nowadays. Also she has raised people in a world that doesn't exist anymore. NOT the same. Tell her she has never raised kids in 2024 and she doesn't know how it is AT ALL. You re in your right here. Also sleeping with baby is super natural for any mammal (that we are) for survival. Send you strength. Dealing with this is not easy.

I personally dont think a one month old should be separated from mom at all if possible. It wouldnt fly in my house and my family members or friends who suggested it would get shut down. Im at month 7 of cosleeping 🤷🏽‍♀️

Do men really enjoy fellatio?

Been together more than 10 years, but it's been a while since he even seemed remotely interested in me getting on my knees, or vice versa so to speak. I think it was once last year. Must be something I am doing wrong 🤔. Generally everything else in that department is great and we have two young kids with no extra support, so it's quite surprising we can't keep our hands off each other but may need to try new things. It's basically 2 positions each time with some foreplay.

Vanilla extract

Has anyone used alcohol free vanilla in their babies formal to help them drink?
I’m 100% sure my baby refuses her bottles as she doesn’t like the taste of it!

Just anxious to try it, don’t want her to get used to it and then refuse bottles again after two weeks of using (correct me if I’m wrong but I’ve read you use it for 2 weeks max)

TIA 🙂

Car seat crying

My 6 month old PANICS the second I put him in a car seat and screams, cries, chokes and recently even projectile vomited on a 14 minute drive. It’s gotten to the point I don’t even bring him out unless it’s to a doctors appointment. I’m a stay at home mom with no family in my state and it has been very isolating. We’ve tried 3 different car seats with no improvement. Has anyone had a baby who hated the car seat? Any advice? This started at 3 months. I will add it does seem worse when he’s tired. He does cry on every trip though. He only contact naps and co sleeps so he reaches for me and will not sleep in the car seat.

Sex post C section

Hi ladies I’m 4 weeks 5 days postpartum and I had a C section. I’m not bleeding properly anymore just some brownish discharge stuff that starts on and off. I’d like to do the deed with my partner; is it okay to do so or shall I wait the full 6 weeks. I feel up for it but also worried because the advice is 6-8 weeks.
