Hello Girlies. I am 36+5 pregnant with my first baby, having a baby boy. I have just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and I am losing the will to live with pricking my finger 4 times a day and now having the stress of watching what I eat. Is anyone else in the same boat? 😢

Hi!
I’m pretty much on the same boat!
35+6 and diagnosed with GD on Wednesday. Started my home glucose monitoring yesterday - pricking the finger is not bad at all! :)
I was told to not change my diet for this week because they want to see the readings without managing it by diet; however, you might have been told differently.
Is your baby measuring big (weight or abdominal)?
My worry is that most likely it won’t be recommended to give birth at birth center anymore which was my plan… but having the appointment with diabetic clinic next week so will see the options. At the end of the day, safe labour is the most important no matter where it will be :)
Anyway - don’t worry, it’s better it is diagnosed and can be mitigated to some extend.

It's hard but you only have a few more weeks to go. I was diagnosed with gdm at 28 weeks, was hard but I ended up losing some weight gained during pregnancy (bad weight) as my meals were cleaner and thus baby and I are healthier because of it.
You got this mama!

I am 35+5 and mine was because baby is measuring big ( 6 pounds 14 oz ) but also high blood pressure! My readings are all over the place at the moment with my normal diet. Fasting levels seem to be okay but the levels an hour after food are high! So obviously.. I need to change something with my diet. Never had any issues before with high blood pressure etc until now in my pregnancy!
The finger pricking for me is so bad, it’s the mental stress behind it. I’m such a worryier and it just wasn’t what I needed in the last few weeks. 😢
As long as baby is safe, that is the main thing though! ❤️

fasting levels seem to be fine. It’s the hour post-meals that are all over the place. Have had one high fasting level but over by point 1.

I tbh haven’t overly watched what I have eaten during my whole pregnancy, if baby craved chocolate we had chocolate. So I could have probably helped myself a little unfortunately.. but eating cleaner will of course benefit us both. It’s just the mental bit behind it all, I’ll be stressing all day thinking about what my readings will be. 😢
Counting down the days! Thank you!

Honestly I’ve had enough too! Nearly there though! I’m 36+1.
Can not wait to stop pricking my fingers!

I was diagnosed with GD at 29 weeks, I'm now 35+2. It's definitely something to get used to though and the diet changes I've found a bit tough especially as the same thing can give different readings on different days which confuses me at times. Mine is currently being managed by diet alone, I had my growth scan today and saw the diabetes consultant afterwards, I expected to be given medication as I had too many reds last week but thankfully he thinks it'll be okay at the moment. I got my testing kit for my birthday from the hospital 😂 on the 9th Feb, such a great gift right, no birthday cake for me😂. I'm currently wanting things that I can't have which isn't fair haha. I'm getting used to doing the tests each day especially as it doesn't hurt as much as my blood thinning injections though I do occasionally forget to do it 4x a day🫣

Yes! I got diagnosed at 28 weeks and I'm now 36 weeks, so over stabbing myself all the time 🙄 I just live by nothing too sweet and nothing white flour based x

@Shannon you will be fine! I was like you, ate whatever I fancied and it was great. I counted myself lucky for not having morning sickness or food aversions. Little did I know the third trimester would kick me in the butt.
It's ok though... I'm planning on having all the best cakes and sweets after baby is born. 😂 Just write a list of all the things you want afterwards, it helps!
Also with gdm, chances are baby will come earlier than due date! Earlier than expected cuddles 🥰

Yes. I’m also not great with the machines. I managed to break one this week by accidentally putting it down in lime juice.
I’m on metformin as my fasting readings are high.
I’ll be honest I’m more anxious about being induced again rather than the stabbing myself and diet. It was not a good experience first time round.
