Struggling! Is this normal or a concern?

My little boy is a week old today and was born 9lb 7oz and we’ve spent 6 days in hospital after his birth as he had an infection.

He’s always had a big appetite so I’ve been running off very little sleep but today he has not stopped feeding since about 9am. He literally feeds on the boob for about 20 mins, falls asleep on me for about 3 minutes then wakes up screaming crying and rooting again.

Me and my partner tried taking him outside but he just screamed crying so that lasted about 2 minutes.

I’m not sure if this is normal cluster feeding or something to be worried about? He hasn’t napped all day either.

Thank you!

From what I can remember, it’s normal for them to feed on and off all day to start with 🥱 if you’re concerned I would talk to your health visitor or the advice line 😊

Absolutely normal. I remember crying the first two weeks thinking where am I going wrong? Why did it all change from the time we were in hospital? Etc. baby is now three weeks old so I completely get it.

Hang in there x

Ring triage and check with a midwife but it’s probably normal. I spent one night in hospital where he was feeding all night and I didn’t get any sleep. I think sometimes they go through times like this. You can also go to a breastfeeding peer support group and get a specialist to check you out when you are feeding and get baby weighed. There’s one every week where I live.

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

Colostrum storing?

Has anyone successfully extracted colostrum before the baby’s born? Apparently it gets produced from 16w pregnant and you can start storing it in the freezer but I’m 34w looking at my nipples and the syringes on amazon wondering how it works?? Like what did you use and did it hurt? 🥲

Self settling

Any tips or advice of how to teach 6.5month old to self settle? I’m up multiple times in the night to cuddle her back to sleep and put the dummy in. I understand she will wake up and want a cuddle etc but any tips on self settling would be appreciated 🥰

Baby losing weight

Hi all, it's been a long time since I had a baby (my son is 15!). My daughter is 10 days old and was 9lb born, she has since lost weight at every appointment and is at a 12% loss. I am breast feeding every two hours for over an hour and topping her up every feed. I pump and can get 60ml in 10 minutes so I know my supply is okay. Anyone had this before? Can give me some tips? I currently feel like I'm letting my baby down.

Breastfeeding

Does it ever feel better? The actual feeding part of it is going really well and baby boy is growing so well. I’m struggling with how my boobs feel day to day - it’s really getting me down most days. The let downs make me feel awful and sounds silly but, I am also really missing not wearing a bra! 9 weeks postpartum and still getting fairly engorged, even with comfort pumping.

Any advice or just shared stories would help. I’m so torn between carrying on because I enjoy the feeding side of it or switching to formula.
