After coming down with what I originally suspected was the flu last week.
I was admitted to hospital last Thursday night with severe pain in my left flank and running a high fever.
After various investigations unfortunately the diagnosis turned out to be something slightly more malicious in the form of a kidney infection (pyelonephritis).
Over the course of 2 sleepless nights and antibiotics intravenously to help rid my body of infection thankfully my symptoms of a fever and pain have dissipated completely.
I have been on oral antibiotics now since being discharged last Saturday however as a plan B if these do not work my Urologist has confirmed I may require a nephrostomy tube to help drain my kidney.
To say it’s been overwhelming would be an understatement however the biggest relief is baby girl is healthy and I can still feel her moving around.
I’m now anxious about my quality of life whilst heavily pregnant if plan B is required.
Has anyone experienced anything similar to this whilst pregnant and did you still carry full term, was baby okay?

Hey, gosh, the hospital have taken this really seriously [which is really good!] I had a kidney infection & persistent urine infection for over 2 months from 25 weeks, so had a scan and I have hydronephrosis in my right kidney. Never been offered an IV or nephrostomy, I’ve just had to take antibiotics. I’m 38 weeks on Monday, baby boy has been monitored this week, and he is kicking away. Hopefully your situation can be managed by antibiotics, but feel free to message at any point - I know how it can feel. And my nephew had a nephrostomy bag for the first 6 months of his life, and he’s doing brilliantly now! X

I had bad kidney infection at the start of my pregnancy. I was on IV for 3 days without a break and nearly died. Still remember when they took my bloods and urine sample and the whole place went into chaos as they finally believed that I am not pretending. It was pretty tough time and I still didnt feel well enough even month later, it took a while to recover. I carried full term but had regular infections and ended up hospital 3-4 times but after the pregnancy everything went back to normal.
