I’m not sure if it’s because I’m extremely tired but I’m really annoyed! 😡
From day one we have told people not to kiss our little boy! He’s not 3 weeks and 4 days old and my partners mum kissed him I told her not too and she was like just a sneaky one (with a smirk on her face) and I said no and she said it again so I had to look at my partner to tell her no. Am I being dramatic? when she has known not to kiss him from day one. I just feel like she has been a bit disrespectful and not respecting our wishes.

You are not being dramatic you are setting boundaries that people need to respect as you being a mama you have all right to set those boundaries and tell people no you worry and she is in every way being disrespectful to you and what your boundaries are so maybe go over them with her and if she can’t fallow them tell her no more holding him.just a little bit advice I have bc I am about to be a new mom and I understand the frustration bc I might just be pregnant but I do have people not respecting my boundaries as a new mom.
that makes me feel better like it’s just really annoyed me like we’ve told her loads while I was pregnant and she’s still done it anyway. Like I find it difficult to tell people no and now all I wanna do is say give me my baby back but don’t have the confidence to do it

Not being dramatic at all! Babies can get really sick. People need to respect the boundaries you have set for your child. I would be fuming and showing her the door!

Nope! Not being dramatic at all! The rule you implemented for others to follow is a legit and reasonable rule that definitely deserves to be followed. I understand your partners mom not respecting your wishes. My son isn’t even here yet and my partners mother is already testing the boundaries/ wishes I put in place.
In my opinion if she can’t respect your wishes and rules as a mother, then she should probably take some time away from your son. I feel like they try to take advantage of kindness
Thank you all, part of me thought I was being dramatic but it has really bugged me but thankfully my partner told her because she was trying to mug me off

You are absolutely not being dramatic! There are so many germs that you can pass on to baby. Some they can thankfully handle better than others but there are a few that are dangerous that you might not know you have. The virus that causes cold sores (HSV1) can be incredibly dangerous! About 50% of the population carries it but a good chunk don’t show any symptoms. We had a friend whose baby contracted it at about 2 months old. Went to the hospital and had swelling on the brain and spinal cord. In the hospital for a few weeks with seizures and some brain damage. They won’t know the true effects for a long time but baby could have died if they didn’t seek treatment or waited to get treatment. Likely things will be okay with a kiss but I’d keep baby away personally if people couldn’t respect boundaries. It’s not worth the risk.

You are not dramatic. We did the same. I get cold sores a lot and as a health visitor myself I’ve seen alot of dangerous cases where babies have got herpes from people with cold sores which haven’t become active yet and it’s actually fatal in many cases. Not to mention the normal kind of colds and flu etc. as a breastfeeding mum I kissed my babies on the heads all the time because your body takes their microbes and makes antibodies so that you both fight off illnesses but I never kissed them on the face until they were months old. Totally not dramatic

No. You're not. People have to respect whatever parenting decision you take for your babies. If they don't, consequences must be in place. "Ok you kissed baby and didn't even apologise or felt you were in the wrong. You won't hang baby for a while, so you learn disrespecting boundaries gonna make you lose something "

This is just the way I am I don’t play and now that I am about to be a mama I know me being mean is going to be a lot more worse but if you don’t feel comfortable with someone that does not respect your boundaries then you take your baby back and tell them I told you no and you still did it so you will be able to hold my baby you disrespect us so now you don’t have that right to hold him.so I am pregnant with my first and one thing I hate the most is physical touch unless it’s my fiancé I have had people just touching my belly and I have said stop and they still do it and when they don’t stop I get mad and tell them my boundaries bc me not liking that they should respect that just like your partners mother should if she can’t set those boundaries that’s your baby nobody else’s and it doesn’t matter about confidence if you have said things a handful of times then that’s when you take that baby and say sum.

Nope you aren’t being dramatic. You are the mum and your the one who sets clear boundaries. If you don’t want people kissing your baby keep enforcing it. I would speak to your partners mum & tell her if she can’t respect your decision to kiss baby then she won’t be able to hold baby in the future as she cannot be trusted.

We didn't let anyone kiss our baby until his first set of jabs and yes I had to repeat myself to my MIL several times. It is hard and Annoying especially when it is for a perfectly valid reason. Stand your ground lovely ❤️

Not being dramatic. It might help if you're comfortable with it to say only kisses on the top of the head. I know it's probably not something you would want her specifically to do since she couldn't respect your wishes. It's hard not to want to kiss a baby though, so this is what I told everyone in my family.

You’re not being dramatic at all, completely disrespectful on her part.

Say for the first 6 weeks you are just spot cleaning him and leaving his natural bacteria from birth to form a protective barrier, so if they want to kiss him they can but he is coated in vaginal fluid from birth 😂 you can also say you are using breast milk to soothe his skin as a moisturiser.
I doubt they will try anything then 🤷🏻♀️😂

😆😆👏🏼

She is VERY disrespectful she is putting YOUR child in harms way when I was a baby my aunt kissed me and I had RSV don’t you dear put up with it say it once around witnesses and if she does it again make an example out of her

You are not being dramatic. I made the same rule and would have been so angry if it was not respected. I’m so sorry this happened.
I mean this is literally what we’re are doing and she knows that but still did it 😂😂

You’re definitely not being dramatic. That would make me so mad!

You're not being dramatic at all
My daughter is 2.3years and i still have a no kissing rule
I dont want her ill and shes not growing up thinking she HAS to kiss people.
It used to make me feel sick and so anxious growing up like that
Which i have to enforce still, FIL is ridiculous and will actively try and kiss her if we are not in the room
Last time his own wife told him no and he replied shes his granddaughter
Just keep being firm and dont budge because the moment you budge, youve lost the war
