Hello Mums!
I am on the fence for introducing a pacifier for my baby for two reasons.
- don’t want to ignore the actual signs of hunger by mistake
- don’t want to set him up so he’s completely dependent on it
Ive been using my pinky to pacify him from time to time so I’m wondering if introducing a pacifier might be a good idea.
What is the good and bad things about using the pacifier and has anyone been able to wean off their babies from it?

I also Had these concerns to begin with. For me, I started to recognize her cries. And if you look up crying language for babies, then you'll be able to tell whenever they're hungry. Also, the signs of moving their arms and legs around trying to suck on their fingers, they'll still try even if there's a binkie in their mouth. As they get older, the binkie is really just a means of comfort. My friend had her kids Bury their binkies, She told them a toy would grow from them. So she just went outside at night and set toys on top of where they buried them. I had another friend who told their kid. If they traded the binkie, they could get something they wanted.

Awe I love the burying of them. So cute and thoughtful. And you never know. They could wean themselves. My first child only liked her binky until she was around 3-6 months old stopped on her own and wouldn't take one anymore. We joked they started tasting like 💩 to her.

I had the exact same concerns and ended up giving it a try around 5 weeks. It’s been super helpful for in the car when she gets upset or when she’s crying and we’ve tried everything else. It’s not my go to still which personally helps me not feel we rely on it as much as we could. I’ve also read that weaning the pacifier away around 6 months and introducing teething toys in place of it can be helpful. I’m not there yet so I haven’t actually tried that

We powered on and didn’t give one in the end. Saved us the job of having to wean him off it! But some people swear by them, so 🤷♀️

would love to know more on how to kept him off and soothed him without it!

I either soothed by putting baby to the breast or by cuddling and rocking him. We used a swaddle bag for sleep 😊

And he was able to sleep in the bassinet with soothing this way through the night?

yes. I mean, he did wake for feeds but that’s normal 😊 but he slept in his crib in-between
