I have a random question that my nurse has yet to answer.
My A1c is 5.6 but they’ve changed my background insulin and I’m getting a few like 16/17s. Not many maybe three in the past two weeks.
Does anyone know if you are in the early stages of pregnancy (before I know for sure) and get these numbers will that Negate the pregnancy chance?
I do not know if I am or not. Just thinking about in the period before we know for sure.
We miscarried in November, so diabetes is more and more stressful.
Thank you

Hi! I’m currently 17+5, my A1c before pregnancy was around 5.5. It’s now 5.1 but I’ve been given an insulin pump designed for pregnancy that’s working wonders. The higher your blood sugars the more risk there is to baby and higher chance your baby will be born larger. Having said this, I have the occasional high (22 sometimes!) due to a problem with my pump etc and my consultant and midwives aren’t concerned. As long as you keep the majority of your bloods lower (I believe the target for pregnancy is between 3.5-7.8) you’ll be ok!
Early pregnancy can cause a bit of insulin resistance so just remember to be accurate with carb counting and take insulin 15 mins before a meal to help stop spikes after eating!
