I EBF my baby, she’s 10 months and due to start nursery full time the end of next month. I’ve tried for months but she won’t take breast milk or formula from a bottle. She does drink water from a straw sippy cup and I’ve tried milk in there and she drinks it but obviously this is just sips not the whole thing in one like a bottle. I’m not sure what to do, I’m already worried about leaving her at nursery but worried she won’t get enough milk during the day. Can I send her in with some milk to put in the straw sippy cup? I’m going to ask them but thought I’d try on her first for some advice.

I've been putting my LO in for a few half days and some full days before she goes full time so we both can get used to it. I struggled to pump enough to give in with her so I ended up giving some ready to drink formula which she doesn't drink much of anyway. She's been fine as they give her meals and snacks throughout the day and she'll have a breastfeed as soon as she comes back. They shouldn't have a problem with putting the milk in a sippy cup, only 2 more months and they can have cows milk anyway!

Have you tried letting someone else give her the bottle while you are not around? My friend had the same and tested with her in-law to give the bottle while she was away and it worked.

Yeh they have no problem putting in sippy cup you normally just have to provide enough cups like you would bottles.. so if two feeds then two cups etc as its normally their policy cos of sterilisation etc.. I did this with my first and my second is due to stay soon and I'll send in straw/open cups for them too.

My LG wouldn’t take a bottle at 8 months but a sippy cup she loves and can do it herself too. 😊 the nuby sippy cup with handles has been a life saver xx

If shes over 6 months then it's worth not pushing with bottle anyway.. as recommended to start transitioning from bottles to cup from 6 months if can.

would you mind sharing a link as I think there are a few different ones? My baby won’t take a bottle and I’m desperate xxx thank you so much

of course,

This one xx

Some bf babies won’t accept much milk when mum isn’t around but will reverse cycle to make up for it when you’re back together (sometimes meaning more sleepless nights 🙈). I agree it’s highly unlikely baby will take to a bottle at this stage and just something else to wean off in a few months. My LO loves her tum tum straw cup but if baby is eating solids well and having water during the day I wouldn’t worry too much, especially if she takes a bit from the cup. Hopefully she might take more as she gets used to it 😊 x

Forget bottles exist (thats what im doing!) I’ll be feeding before work, before bed and during night. But once i’m back at work we will ween all day feeds. Mine wont even take expressed milk from his 360 cup and he drinks loads of water from that. Their main source of nutrients at 12 months is food and water so don’t worry 💖
