I know the advice is to not wean night feeds at this age but my daughter is relying on sucking a bottle to fall back to sleep at night time rather than actually wanting feeds. She won't suck the bottle for long and barely even has an ounce before falling back to sleep. The health visitor said to give her water instead which I have been doing and she doesn't care, so she just wants the sucking motion rather than what is inside. She also will not take a dummy. I feel she will continue waking up every 2-3 hours until she learns to not require the bottle to fall back to sleep. It has been like this since the 4 month regression and I am so over it. I've tried resettling her without and she screams bloody murder and is completely hysterical beyond being able to settle, she actually scares me 😂. I really don't know what to do! Any recommendations? She also needs to fall asleep in my arms and needs to be transferred and often wakes up when I put her down and is screaming crying, arching her back. I feel like we've pulled the short straw with her sleep...

My daughter is exactly the same at night, she doesn’t take a dummy either. She has a few sips of milk and goes back to sleep and also wakes every 2 hours it’s a nightmare! Especially as I’m pregnant again I need her to sleep better before the next baby arrives😅 she uses the milk as comfort and I don’t know how to change it either, sorry no advice but I’d love to know what to do as well 😫😬 x

I'm also pregnant again, due in September whi h is why I'm so bothered by this! Time pressure to sort this baby's sleep out 😂. Have you tried water? It was no luck for us but maybe this will help you guys?

no I will try water soon and see if that helps! Hopefully your baby will just grow out of it soon 😅

Is she not just thirsty? X

What bottles do you use? Have you tried using a type of dummy with a similar teat to the bottle?

@Lena she barely has any of what is in the bottle, hardly an ounce. She used to feed to sleep so i think it is an extension of this habit, she wakes every 2-3 hours and won't fall asleep until there is a bottle in her mouth so I think it's more of a sleep association than an actual need x

@Millie we use MAM bottles and she won't take any dummy. And to be honest I'd rather not introduce one now too as she has never taken one anyway and it would just be another think we need to wean her off and potentially not solve the issue. It's so annoying! Xx

I got told of they take even a few sips its because they are thirsty so offer water. I would try a comforter or dummy maybe? X

@Lena she doesn't take a dummy, I have tried so many times and she spits them out :/. She takes a couple sips and then tries to go back to sleep and if she can't settle she does it again, so I'm pretty certain it is a sleep association than a proper need. She doesn't really care for her comforters either and I wouldn't want to put anything else in her cot with her even if she did. She feels like an impossible baby!

Follow The Sleepchief on Instagram. Try the ‘controlled comforting’ sleep training. It will be hard first night but that’s it, worth it long term massively. My baby sleeps 6.30pm- 6.30am since 6 months. We did controlled crying approach though. Good luck x

Oh and just get rid of any bottle/ don’t introduce any dummy etc if not using atm

@Ashleigh I will check it out, thank you 🙂. How many days did it take? X

@Ashleigh yeah she wouldn't even take a dummy anyway and don't want to introduce one now! Xx

@Bethany aww bless you. It's a hard stage so many developments happening. My first never took a dummy and I found it much better than them having a dummy so I no itsbhard but it's so much better in the long run. We did sleep training it helps so much we did a gentle version as he throws up badly from silent reflux so you could try that? Find a way yous all feel comfortable with? X

honestly like 1 night. He cried on/off for 30 mins first night then 5 mins next night then no crying. Now he doesn’t cry at all. It’s a game changer, do it! You got this!
