Reduced Movements 38 Weeks

Baby’s movement patterns have changed and movements are less noticeable and frequent.

I had a temperature on Tuesday and felt very ill through the night. Usually, baby would wake me multiple times in the night with big, quite uncomfortable movements but I only felt a few little kicks that night.

The next morning I went in for a check up and midwife confirmed with a CTG that baby’s heart rate and movements were okay.

However, since Tuesday, baby has definitely been significantly less active. I am feeling some movement through the day and the occasional big, uncomfortable roll/push which is more normal for us, but not at the times I’ve become used to or for the extended periods i’m used to.

I feel like I can’t keep going in for CTG as I’ve been twice just to be told everything is ok but this is definitely a change for me at a marked point in time and Dr Google would suggest that’s enough to ring alarm bells.

Has anyone experienced similar?

I had this with my first pregnancy around 38 weeks I had reduced movements! I would go to the hospital to be checked as many times as you think, mama knows best x

If your not happy either movements at full term you can be induced x

If you’re still concerned I don’t see a problem with continuing tests . Have you tried kick counting? Baby is also running out of space and is getting ready for birth in the coming weeks .

My twins moved significantly less in the 2 weeks before I gave birth. Doc said it's because there is smaller place as they grow a lot by the end of the pregnancy. Get checked but don't be over stressed about it. Also as they grow so much they sleep more so will be reduced movements.

I would just call in and go get checked. It will give you reassurance that all is ok and the less stressed you are at this stage the better surely x

Hey mama, always trust your gut feeling. Doesn’t matter how many trips to the hospital it takes, it truly is better to be safe than sorry. Good luck ❤️🙏🏼

Go back in as many times as you need 🩷 also if you need to check out the kicks count charity, they have some helpful tips on there of how to count how many times your baby moves. Babies never run out of room to move, any changes need to be checked over, hope you are all good mama xxx

Doesn’t matter how many times you go, if you feel it’s not right for what you’re used to then absolutely go back and get checked again ☺️
Baby should be moving right up until you give birth x

less space and upcoming birth should not impact the frequency of movements. Movements may feel different, but baby should not be moving less. Baby should be moving as normal right up until birth. It doesn't matter how many times you need to go in, any reduction should always be checked out. Hope you're OK x

I suppose it’s safe to say people experience differently .

I’ve had the same and ended up in triage last night for the 5th time with reduced movements. Please don’t think it’s not worth your time! Every time I’ve been up they have been lovely and told me to stop panicking that I’m wasting everyone’s times because I’m not x

experience what differently?

Definitely go to triage, I had this and they needed to get little one out as an emergency. Trust your gut!!

I had a couple CTGs and an ultrasound due to worries about reduced movements. They said it’s just that he’s really squished so any movements are small now which is very contradictory to the whole “your baby’s movements shouldn’t reduce during the last few weeks” advice but it is what it is. Also they say that movements should be unprovoked but realistically they prod and poke him when putting on the CTG monitors so he’s always more awake then as he’s been poked… anyway, my tolerance for calling triage is really low nowadays as I’ve only got a week or so left (hopefully) and I’ll call anytime I’m worried

@Charlotte when they say his movements are small now, I think they're talking in regards to the type of movement, not the frequency. X

Thank you everyone for your comments and advice. Baby boy was born at 38 +5 via c section after those reduced movements led to an iffy CTG and some concerns about him. He was born a very healthy 9lbs 1oz and is doing well.
Definitely trust your gut!

Induction experience

I just wanted to share my experience with being induced as I wasn’t sure what to expect and thought it may help others.

I opted for the foley balloon which was inserted at 8am Saturday morning, I had to stay in hospital due to hypertension and protein urine however usually you can just go home once this has been done. The insertion of the balloon was not painful, was slightly uncomfortable as there was slight pressure. I actually found having the cervix checked prior to be worse (again not painful at this point just uncomfortable) The balloon had little effect and after having it removed I was still only 1cm. Removal also was pain free and hardly even noticeable.

I then had my first dose of the gel and definitely noticed a difference, I started experiencing period like cramps almost immediately however they were light and manageable. After 6 hours I had another cervix check and although my cervix was soft it was still only 1cm and was only open at the front. I had another dose of the gel and felt an increase in pressure and more intense cramping where I now required pain relief (codeine). After another 6 hours I had another cervix check and I had now dilated to 2-3cm however was still quite difficult to get all the way through so a third gel was recommended which I agreed to.

Almost immediately I noticed the difference and was in considerable pain, I had paracetamol and codeine however the contractions had now become intense and a lot closer together (around 3 minutes apart). After a couple of hours I had my last cervix check and was 4cm and taken down to the Labour ward to have my waters broken and an epidural.

I had been in my room for approx 20minutes when my waters broke by themselves and I was now 10cm and actively pushing…. There was no time for the epidural and my beautiful girl arrived into the world within 2 minutes of pushing.

All in all I would say the cramps/contractions were manageable up until the third gel where it became pretty unbearable however it was for a very short time a gas and air helped take the edge off. The worst part about any of it was actually the later cervix checks where after stimulating the cervix my contractions were at their most painful.

If I had to be induced again I would skip the balloon and opt for the gels immediately as thy had a quicker effect and I would have been out a lot sooner if I had done this to begin with.

One more thing, I’ve never believed when people say “you forget the pain once they’re here” but I can honestly say this is true. It’s been 4 days and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

Doctors appt horror stories

I got peed on at my one month olds doctors appointment and I wanted to see if others had similar experiences. It was just hilarious but also like whyyyy! Also jeez those doctors seem to be so rough when they’re pressing on the baby’s stomach and just moving them around checking their muscles and stuff.

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?
