Does anyone have tips for how to encourage their babies to play in their playpen? We have quite a large play pen for my 9.5 month old son and I’d love to be able to use it more so I can do a few things around the house while he’s safely contained - but my son is just not happy being in there. He cries as soon as I put him in and stands peeking over the side asking to be picked up. I’ve tried putting different toys in, moving the play pen around the room to different spots, etc., but nothing has worked so far. My house is open concept so when he’s in there he can see me no matter where I am - it’s good for me to be able to keep an eye on him, but maybe seeing me is part of the problem for him? Any suggestions are welcome!

So even bringing the playpen to wherever you are doesn’t work? I used to do that. I now just let my daughter if I don’t want her getting into stuff I put her in her high chair to get a few chores done, put on her face show and go do my stuff haha. You can find age appropriate learning shows that may be able to help you get some things done without him needing all the time

Mine went through a phase where she hated it but now if doors open she’ll go in herself and I can close the door

I honestly never did a play pen. I had a play area and stairs were blocked off but everything on the main floor was fair game 😂. We have a very simple home for this reason with not many extras within reach (no lamps, decor pieces etc) Hed usually end up in the kitchen with me pulling out pots and pans, give him a spoon and hell be mixing or playing music.

We get in the large play pin with him with "exclusive" toys for the play pen usually musical ones and let him play with me in there with him. Now I can put him in and he will let me walk away for a little while. It definitely helped with the 'heck no don't leave me in this prison phase'. I will still get in there and play or sit with him just to keep the pen a stress free zone.

Play music when he’s in there
