This is my attempt at a "somewhat" healthy dinner. I tried asparagus for the first time and I didn't like how it turned out 😖 they weren't crunchy. I did something wrong but overall, dinner was good

that looks good 🔥
Next time put the asparagus inside the oven or air fryer they will turn out great

Looks yummy!! Yay veggies. Asparagus shouldn't be crunchy, just tender!

That stem looks tough, you may have just gotten crappy asparagus.

I did put them in the oven 😬

I think I'd prefer mine a little crunchy.. I didn't like that tender texture. They were just too soft

It was a frozen bag. Maybe that's why they turned out that way??

oh, yeah, frozen asparagus can manage to be both too soft and too stringy at the same time. Same if it's not in season.

Ohh frozen, yeah that'll do it. Not the best unfortunately.

Yep it was stringy too

ahh man. Welp now I know. This was my first time. I just wanted to try something different

it's hit or miss with fresh asparagus sometimes too, I usually have to trim a few inches of tough stem depending on how it looks. I bought some a few weeks ago at Grocery Outlet that sucked too.

frozen fruit and vegetables usually aren’t the same :/ freezing them changes their texture because when you freeze them you’re freezing the water in the plant cells and water expands when frozen which causes the cell walls to rupture/break so that’s why after thawed fruits and vegetables are usually soft and soggy

If you get the thinner fresh asparagus, it will be easier to make them somewhat crunchy as long as you make them in the oven or the airfryer. I normally put mine in the oven for 25-30 mins checking on them so they don't burn. I don't flip them or anything.

Thanks for the tip!

If you liked the flavour, I would stick to maybe just steaming frozen asparagus if that's all you can get! Then you can make a lemon butter sauce for it.

I like the asparagus with the soft texture, did you just not expect it?

@Grace
Umm idk why I expected more of a little crunch. It LOOKS crunchy on the Pinterest videos that I've watched. Mine were like limp and soft lol. I didn't like that texture

gotcha! Yeah I think that’s it’s natural tendency when cooked but you could try it in the air fryer?

yep that's how ima cook them next time. Thanks

Tempura asparagus would be lovely!
