Maternity pay errors

Hi all, any advice regarding mat pay errors? I received my 2nd mat pay today, first full month and both months so far have been drastically lower than I calculated I would receive. One issue is that pension contributions are still being deducted, despite me ticking that I wanted to opt out of the pension scheme on my maternity leave application. But even without this, the amount is less than I expected. I never received a breakdown of what figures to expect, and I've tried calling HR today but no one is answering the line. I have emailed and left a message but likely to be 48 hours to hear anything. I am bottom band 7 full time, and have opted to split over 12 months. Can anyone give me an idea of roughly what my monthly pay should be? I'm frustrated, as I was super busy working right until I started my leave at 39 weeks, and had my baby less than a week later. I wish I had been selfish and spent my time ensuring my pay would be correct, as now I am having to spend my mat leave sorting it! Thanks in advance for any tips or advice! ☺️

Hi Amy You will need to contact payroll for the error around pension contribution and they should rectify this for you. Here is a link to maternity pay calculator: https://maternitycalculator.co.uk/nhs# In case you were not aware, the first 2 months pay would be significantly lower as you have chosen to split over 12 months and SMP is not due until the 3rd month. Hope this helps.

@Grace thanks Grace, really helpful! 😀

You should also be able to log a querie with payroll directly, they can help and send you out a breakdown of your pay over mat leave. I had a nightmare sorting mine out before I went off, so ended up going straight to payroll instead of through my HR department. https://www.sbs.nhs.uk/services/employment-services/payroll-and-hr/

Thanks all! Payroll have sent me the breakdown now and the form to complete to opt out of the pension scheme!
