No colostrum yet!

Currently 28 weeks + 3 days and still no colostrum.. I’ve had no flakes on nipples or leakage.. my boobs definitely have become enlarged (went from 32b to 32d) so i believe there’s something in there i just have yet to see any evidence of it… my mom never breastfed me or my siblings so i didn’t even know if i’d be capable and the lack of colostrum this far along worries me.. other pregnant women i’m friends with had colostrum at like 16 weeks.. i feel scared i won’t be able to produce for baby..

I haven’t had any either and I’m 28+1. My boobs haven’t gotten much bigger either but I’ve read and heard from a breast feeding class that milk comes in once baby is here and you deliver your placenta. It’s different for everyone I wouldn’t be too worried.

thank you so much, i’ve been so stressed over it, i don’t have the money to spend on formula and im doing this as a single mom so i really really need breastfeeding to work out..

I’m 30 weeks and 1 day and I don’t have it yet either! Some people just don’t until birth!!

Awwe, try not to compare yourself to others too much, as all women, pregnancies, and babies are different! I haven’t really attempted to check (28 weeks), and I won’t be trying to collect colostrum till 37 weeks. By then, your baby is at full term. Trying to hand pump or hand express for colostrum could induce labor… so I’m super paranoid about that! But yeah, don’t fret. It’ll be okay!

that’s super reassuring

yea i’m not trying to force any out or collect, but ik ppl say once their supply begins coming in they literally wake up with wet stains on their shirt to the point where u can’t miss it.. i just worry bc i have no signs yet, but hopefully it does come in by 37 weeks bc i plan to have her a couple weeks before due date

I’m sure it’ll all work out just fine!

Hi! I am 30 weeks and I don't have any signs of colostrum yet! Don't worry our bodies are so wise, that doesn't mean we won't be able to breastfeed our babies ☺️

Avatar

Trust me, it's in there lol. A lot of first time moms won't notice until after birth (me). I was so worried I'd put him to boob and there'd be nothing. It was all good!
This time around I noticed just a tiny bit before a shower. But again, my body has done it before and is just more ready to go earlier on unlike last time.
Don't stress! Your body is doing its thing ☺️

I didn't leak at all before birth and they don't recommend hand expression till after 36 weeks so don't stress out mama. I ended up over producing 2 days after birth! Everyone's different but there's no need to worry. Have you tried signing up for wic? They'll help with breastfeeding and formula

Avatar

Oh and I had my son at exactly 36 weeks so the milk comes even if you give birth before term

Avatar

yea I have WIC currently, but the type I have is super picky about brands so I can only get certain formulas with my WIC card and many of them have been recalled which scares me

Avatar

@Tyshi oh that's definitely understandable! If you can get food stamps /SNAP you can use that for formula and get store brand I recommend targets gentle. There's also the option to look into food pantries and banks as well as groups on social media who give away formula

Avatar

I have SNAP as well, I was unaware I could buy formula with it thank you!

@Tyshi oh course! And good luck mama ❤️

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣

New born

Finally had my baby girl via C-section on the 18th, everything has been so far. But I’ve noticed she’s very fussy and cries a lot. I’ve been trying to exclusively breastfeed. The lactation consultant at the hospital said I did look like I’m making enough milk for her. She was latching on good at the hospital and now here at home, she doesn’t seem to want to latch at all. She’s been crying a lot and very fussy. I’m just wondering is she’s colic or like maybe she just doesn’t want the breast anymore?
