Had my 34 week midwife appointment and when she was doing my measurement she said 'I think baby is head down' but then moments later asked if I had had any back pain as baby looked like he was lying laterally (transverse). I didnt think much of it as o suspected due to the shape of my bump.. but of course now I'm realising that not being head down at 34 weeks potentially isnt great and I've worried myself silly googling it and wishing I had had the common sense to ask questions about what the midwife was saying.
Has anyone else had their baby transver at 34weeks but theyve moved by 36 weeks?.. and also if hes transverse still at 36 weeks im assuming I will have yo have a scan to check .. or do you just get be booked in for a c section?! One thing I've read said they will have you in hospital from 37weeks in case if cord prolapse!!
Any experiences of this (good or bad) will help me wrap my head around it and know what to ask at my next appointment! Xx

Hello! I’d briefly discussed this with my midwife when she thought baby was transverse at 28 weeks… worried myself googling too! (Had a scan privately 2 weeks later and baby was head down, and I suspect had always been…). At 34 weeks they said they’d advise some exercise (I’ve heard Spinning babies website mentioned a lot) and at 36 they would do a scan to check. If still transverse, may offer an ECV (?) and some trusts would advise admission at 37 weeks with a view to C Section (due to risk of cord prolapse). But I think there’s still time for baby to move, especially if they’ve been head down before -xx-

I’m 34 weeks and baby is moving between transverse and breech, he’s diagonal across my tummy most of the time! They’ve said at 36 weeks they will do a scan to check where he is, his head position and cord location and then talk me through options of ECV or C-section etc! Xxx

Thankyou both! Think I'm just frustrated the midwife mentioned it as a throwaway comment rather than discussing it with me .. already feel better about it/a bit more informed and ready to ask lots of questions at my 36 week appointment! X
