I had my booking appointment with the midwife last Wednesday and afterwards I’ve looked at the pack of info she gave me and it says I should have been asked for a urine sample in that appointment. I’m not sure why they ask for it but my midwife didn’t ask me for one and she didn’t say anything about it. Has anyone else’s midwife missed this out? Is it important?

Mine forgot to do mine and I forgot as well, but last time I had a baby they checked every time because pregnant women are more susceptible to UTIs. I had two during pregnancy and didn’t even realise until they picked it up on the urine sample. It can be quite dangerous for the baby (and us) for an untreated UTI

Yes./ but you likely are going to know you have a uti.. it’s not the most comfortable situation..

I think in certain NHS trusts they don't mandate urine tests anymore, and yeah I think it's down to checking for UTIs but ofc you'd suspect something if you possibly had one/ would communicate symptoms that will warrant them to do a urine test.

I’d say it’s important, I didn’t know I had a urine infection at the time, and because it got left untreated, as I don’t get symptoms of a uti, it turned into a kidney infection x

With my first baby for every appointment I had I had to do a urine sample every time I went as soon as I got there as they like to check for proteins and for any UTI’s xx

Twice i forgot so i just called and they said bring one in the next day
