Hi all my boy has just turned 6 months. He is a gorgeous smiley boy.
Hes recently started to twist his left hand and some times repeat it. Ive read this is an autistic trait and as i have researched further there seems to be alot of signs of autism like flapping arms and legs and although he aknowledges people and smiles he doesnt always look when you say his name. He also has fazes of repeatedly making mmmmmmmmm sounds. Just wondered if anyone else has had the same and what do i do this early. I know early intervention is key but im not sure what to do
Thanks x

I don’t think u have anything to worry about, the “mmm” sound is part of development and speech at 6 months, it will eventually turn into mumma etc. The hand/arm flapping could be a way to show excitement.
People are so much more aware of autism now days and are almost looking out for signs of autism, from my experience working within the educational sector it’s becoming more common as the spectrum is so wide now. I’d have concerns if ur child isn’t meeting milestones when they’re 18-24 months, not giving eye contact, stimming accompanied by other traits. However I personally think u don’t need to worry. If u are concerned then speak to ur HV.
Wish u all the best X
Thank you for this ❤️
Someone told me what he is doing with his hands is stimming. He stares at his hand and twists it over and over. But i wont worry until hes older and showing signs then x

Honesty please don’t worry, he’s just discovering what his hands can do!

Honestly pretty much everything a baby does until atleast the age of one is a ‘sign of autism’ too. It’s all normal baby behaviour. Try not to fixate on looking for signs you’ll drive yourself mad x

Hey, I know this was a while ago but did you baby grow out of it? Mine is still doing it.
